The OHS/EHS Specialist provides expert knowledge and overall guidance of all health, safety, and environmental issues. Reporting to the Head, Engineering and Maintenance, the OHS/EHS Specialist designs, develops, monitors, and executes programs to ensure a safe working environment and a safety mindset throughout the organization.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provide technical excellence in hazard/risk identification, assessment and controls, emergency preparedness and response planning.
- Ensures full compliance with required laws and regulations, including all employee safety, materials, and environmental legislation.
- Performs EHS compliance audits, training, hazardous substances and chemical inventory assessments, job hazard assessments, and other similar EHS assignments.
- Conduct research on best practices in OHS/EHS and design, develop, and implement programs, policies, and practices to support program goals.
- Act as internal expert on materials hazards, including appropriate storage, maintenance, and usage of specific materials and equipment.
- Ensures company is prepared for any/all EHS/OHS audits - regulatory agencies or customers.
- Resolve safety/environmental issues through contributions of the Joint Health and Safety Committee, employees, and management.
- Review capital projects, new substances, and new equipment installations to ensure compliance with regulatory and guideline requirements.
- Review, update, and monitor existing OHS/EHS training program.
- Drive a culture of safety throughout the organization.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- B.Sc. in a health science, engineering, or any related scientific field.
- Minimum 3 years' experience with OHS/EHS in manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a GMP environment is an asset.
- Proven background building EHS/OHS programs from the ground up is an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge in occupational hygiene, industrial safety, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills - ability to work with contacts at multiple sites to achieve project goals.
- Understanding of the Environmental Protection Act and related environmental legislation to fulfill requirements for hazardous waste, air emissions, and other environmental reporting.
- Familiarity with WSIB claims management, construction projects, Pre-Start Health & Safety Reviews, and contractor safety an asset.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $70,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
