**Job Summary**:
Using a collaborative approach and evidence-based practice, the Therapeutic Rec Practitioner is responsible for individual and group assessment, goal-setting, and implementation of intervention programs to promote independent functioning within the physical, emotional, mental and social domains.

Reporting to the Clinical Operations Manager, the Therapeutic Rec Practitioner will work collaboratively with internal and external service providers to provide comprehensive care for our clients at SAYC. Being part of the multi-disciplinary team at Syl Apps Youth Centre requires consulting with several different professionals in assessing clients’ therapeutic recreation needs, developing intervention plans, implementing the interventions, and evaluating the outcomes and progress on ongoing basis.

This position is covered by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 213 group.

**Duties & Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)**:

- Assessment and Intervention
- evaluating social, emotional, behaviour for the purpose of formulation and treatment planning, development of recreation plans and programs for youth, outlining objectives and goals of the program and evaluating individual and group recreational programs, skills instruction.
- Assess, plan and implement a personalized approach to service delivery within the guidelines of the Therapeutic Recreation Service Model in accordance with TRO Standards of Practice
- Recreational Programming
- Facilitate, schedule, organize and implement various therapeutic recreation programs. Plan, develop and support unit based and facility wide recreation programs to be facilitated by other staff. Coordinate and support community involvement in recreation programming at SAYC.
- Administrative tasks
- Attending agency meetings/trainings, internal/external communication, scheduling client and community appointments, and maintaining written documentation.
- Consult with frontline staff and work in partnership with interdisciplinary team for the purpose of improving client care.

**Qualifications**:

- Requires completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field. A Master’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field is preferred.**:

- Must be registered and in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO).
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification is preferred.
- Some practical or position related experience is required.
- Training in Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB) - preferred
- Highly developed clinical intervention skill set as it pertains to Rec therapy. Working knowledge of evidence-based therapy models and techniques
- General working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, and other relevant software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge and working experience with relevant legislations including the Child and Youth Family Services Act and Ontario Mental Health Act.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR C are required.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license is required.
