Angus McKay Nursery School is a non-profit charity nursery school that has been in operation for over 45 years in the Fraser's Grove area of East Kildonan inside the Angus McKay Elementary School. We provide a safe, friendly atmosphere for 3-5-year-old children, where they learn through play and through their own sense of wonder. Our goal is to provide materials, toys and activities that arouse children’s curiosity, stimulate their creativity, and build confidence and independence.

**Term**: For the remainder of the school year, with a possibility of an extended contract with the normal hours of: Monday, Wednesday, Friday (full school day), Tuesday and Thursday (half school day). Total of 26 hours/week in the classroom, plus 2 hours/week for prep and clean-up, and 1 hour/week for administrative tasks.

**Duties/Responsibilities**:The CCA will be responsible for assisting with a variety of tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the nursery school, including:

- **Health & Safety**:

- Maintain updated First Aid/CPR certification.
- Complete Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse checks (see below for details).
- Document and report suspected cases of child abuse to Child and Family Services and the Executive Committee.
- Assist in creating care plans for children with allergies or special needs.
- **Event Coordination**:

- Assist in organising open house and registration night.
- Participate in a "Meet the Teacher" event at the beginning of the school year.
- Participate in the Christmas party and Year End party.
- **Administrative Support**:

- Ensure all parents complete required consent forms (photography, video, phone list, etc.).
- Collect and submit field trip permission slips and funds to the Treasurer.
- Assist the teacher in preparing reports for Child Development and other agencies.
- Maintain the nursery’s Instagram account to communicate classroom activities with parents.
- **Classroom Assistance**:

- Set up activity areas such as craft tables, water table, and gym equipment before class.
- Assist children during play, craft, and snack times, and help maintain discipline according to school policy.
- Supervise children during bathroom breaks, outdoor play, and circle time.
- Aid the teacher during dismissal procedures and assist with clean-up tasks (e.g., washing art supplies).
- **Professional Development & Meetings**:

- Attend board meetings and meetings with parents of special needs children.
- Register for and participate in professional development opportunities throughout the year.
- **Other Responsibilities**:

- Contact an approved substitute and notify relevant staff when unable to attend due to illness.
- Track supplies used and submit bills to the Treasurer.

**Reference Checks**:

- **Criminal Record Check (CRC)** with Vulnerable Sector Search must be completed through the Winnipeg Police. The check can be done online, and the nursery will reimburse the cost once a clear result is received.
- **Child Abuse Registry (CAR) Check** must be completed online, with reimbursement provided once a clear result is received.
- New employees are required to sign the "Criminal History Disclosure" form.
- Once the CRC and CAR results are received, the "Verification of Declaration" form must be completed and submitted to the Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) government office.

**Qualifications**:

- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks.
- Completion of the Child Care Assistant Course, or anticipation of completion.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and children.
- Experience working with young children is an asset.
- Organisational skills and attention to detail are essential.

**Notes**:

- This role has an anticipated start date of November 18, 2024.
- Pay range will be set in accordance with the Province of Manitoba’s Child Care Wage Grid.
