**Working for the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute**

The Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI) is dedicated to tracking changes in biodiversity across the entirety of Alberta for the next 100 years, and this resultant information provides Albertans the ability to make informed decisions about the state of their environment in ways never before possible.

**Position**

The Restoration Ecologist works in ABMI’s Science Centre and is responsible for analyzing large, complex datasets to support landscape management throughout Alberta. This includes leading the development of monitoring program designs, modelling, and tool development in collaboration with multiple partners, including provincial and federal governments, Indigenous communities, and industry groups from the natural resource sector.

**Duties**
- Analyze large field-based and remotely sensed datasets to evaluate the effects of disturbance and restoration on vegetation and fauna
- Develop and test new approaches and study designs for restoration monitoring, including delivering training materials and occasional travel to restoration program sites
- Collaborate with government, industry, and Indigenous partners to understand information needs and build informed monitoring program designs
- Create and disseminate reports and other science communication products

**Minimum Qualifications**
- MSc in ecology or related discipline.
- Greater than 3 years working in the field of restoration ecology, with excellent interpersonal skills, experience working with research teams, and strong analytical ability.
- Experience working with GIS.
- Experience modeling vegetation and mammal response to habitat disturbance and recovery.
- Experience with managing complex data flows and working with advanced data management systems as part of an integrated team.
- Experience working on multidisciplinary teams and communicating relevant results to partners and collaborators.
- Valid driver’s license.

- A self-motivated and proactive approach to solving problems.
- Ability to work with independence and thrive in fast-paced work environment.
- Experience working in Alberta’s boreal ecosystems.
- An interest in continuous learning.
