**Summary**:
An inclusion counselor’s primary responsibility is to provide ongoing additional support

(inclusion support) to campers with additional developmental needs including cognitive,

social/emotional, psychological, physical and behavioral needs. Your primary goal is to

adapt/create activities to enable registered special needs campers to participate in the

programming and experiences to the fullest extent possible. Heartland Forest Summer

Adventure Camp runs outdoors rain or shine in a forested area promoting outdoor

experiential environmental education and physical fitness.

**Responsibilities**:
All essential job responsibilities will be executed in accordance with Heartland Forest’s

Administrative policies.

**Responsibilities**:

- Established as primary support contact for identified Summer Adventure Campers
- Provide direct camper care, prioritizing the physical, social, emotional health-safety and well-being of each individual camper
- Collaborate with families to provide an in-take process and care plan for individual campers with the guidance of the Camp Director
- Design activities for daily/weekly free periods
- Manage camper behaviors using positive behavior management techniques, enforcing appropriate safety policies, emergency procedures, and camp rules
- Design modifications and supports that are engaging and accessible for individual campers, so that they can participate in group and individual activities to the fullest extent possible
- Facilitate transitions and sensory breaks as needed
- Assist camper with personal care needs as needed which may include bathroom care, wheelchair transfers
- Enthusiastically participate in all activities with the campers
- Responsible for managing crisis situations related to behavior and health as needed
- Create and implement activity plans for, transitional periods between activities and rainy day activities, as requested by the Camp Director and Group Leaders
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Camp Director and Assistant Director
- Participate in staff training prior to camp as well as weekly staff meetings either before or after camp hours as determined by Camp Director
- Assist with record management for reporting to Reach for the Rainbow
- Distribute parent/caregiver survey for each camper
- Assist with program evaluation

**Competencies**:

- Ability to plan and organize
- Ability to work effectively within a diverse team environment
- First Aid and CPR
- Clear vulnerable sector screening, Valid Ontario G License and/or access to a vehicle required

**Education, Experience, Licenses and Certificates**:
To perform this job successfully, an individual will have experience in the disability field

or is currently enrolled in a complimentary post-secondary diploma or certificate

program. Experience in outdoor educational children’s programming an asset.

**Safety**:

- Supports the corporate Occupational Health & Safety initiatives by incorporating safe work practices into daily work routine
- Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices to Camp Director

**Work Conditions**:

- Required to work outdoors, in a variety of weather conditions and able to walk distances over uneven terrain
- Able to educate with enthusiasm regardless of weather conditions
- May be required to work some evenings and weekends
- Some physical labor involved (backpacking and some lifting involved, for example: moving firewood, chairs, tables and light landscaping
