Crisis Intervener

The successful applicant must have:

- Assist in the overall operation of the Miramichi Emergency Centre for Woman, providing a home like atmosphere for the woman and children staying at the shelter.
- Assist the general public by providing information, referrals as needed.
- Respond to distress calls; assessing the situation, providing the information on the services of the shelter and other appropriate agencies.
- Record all incoming calls in the log book.
- Arrange transportation for woman needing such to come to the shelter.
- Act as an advocate for woman staying at the shelter.
- Provide support and encouragement,
- Complete an intake form on arrival of a client obtaining all appropriate information.
- Inform clients of house rules.
- Report to family and community services if child abuse is disclosed or it is suspected that child abuse has occurred.
- Record in clients files any problems that have been observed, or need to be addressed.
- Provide clients with information as requested.
- Record appropriate information in a daily log book.
- Keep employees informed of daily activities.
- Record all distress visits (crisis).
- Prepare room on the admission of clients.
- Contact other shelters for transfer or a client to another shelter.
- Become familiar with all aspects of the shelter including fire alarms, security systems, and appliances.
- Complete a departure form when a client leaves.
- Keep all files and information on clients confidential.
- Address issues of concern with executive director.
- Offer support and information showing choices, never telling a client what to do.
- Make contact with businesses and agencies as needed.
- Assume additional responsibilities as requested by the executive director.
- Must attend staff meetings when held.
- First aid and CPIC with vulnerable sector required.

**Salary**: $18.00 per hour

- 12 hour shift
- Day shift
- Holidays
- Night shift
- On call

**Experience**:

- post secondary education or relatable field: 1 year (preferred)
