**Community Integration Specialists **are important links to services in their communities. They create trust-based relationships to help people navigate systems and access support services. They act as a connection between people and a wide variety of community-based supports and services to help meet their needs, and to communicate available Ministry services and programs through community channels.

As a Community Integration Specialist, you will be working with people who may have mental health and substance use challenges, and who are at risk of losing their housing or experiencing homelessness. You will need to create trust-based relationships to help people navigate systems and access support services. You will also work with government and community based non-profit agencies. In delivering service through outreach programs, you will need to consider each person’s unique needs and cultural wellness when making decisions and advocating and liaising on their behalf.

**Job Requirements**:
**Due to the nature of this position and in accordance with Section 42 of the BC Human Rights Code, only people of Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) will be considered.**
- Secondary School graduation and three (3) years of *related experience; **OR**:

- Evergreen Certificate (School Completion Certificate) and four (4) years of *related experience; **OR** An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered- Related experience must include at least two of the following and can be gained in either a community/volunteer or employment/customer service capacity:

- Working with Indigenous people who are living in poverty and may be experiencing homelessness
- Working with Indigenous people who are experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges
- Working with people with disabilities Experience delivering services to/supporting Indigenous peoplePreference may be given to applicants who have one or more of the following:

- Experience working in community organizations, BC Friendship Centres, and/or with multiple service providers.
- Direct or indirect lived experience of addiction, poverty, homelessness, or mental health challenges. Experience using a trauma-informed approach to client service.Proviso/Willingness Statements:

- Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service. If a previous record exists, this does not automatically exclude the applicant and the hiring manager will follow up for further conversation.
- Must be comfortable working in encampments, on the street and areas where individuals who are experiencing homelessness gather.
- Will be required to have a valid BC driver’s license within thirteen (13) months of starting the position.
- Travel may be required.
- Will practice reasonable precautions in the performance of duties and adhere to all safety rules and practices to ensure personal safety as well as safety to colleagues, individuals, and others.

**About this Position**:
This position has full time on-site requirements in Port Alberni.
An eligibility list may be established for future temporary and/or permanent opportunities in Port Alberni.
Successful applicants will be required to physically work in Port Alberni and will not be eligible to be placed elsewhere in the province by virtue of this competition.
