**Location**: North End/St.Vital area. Program prep done from home.
*Must be available Wednesdays from 9:30am until 3:00pm*

**THE OPPORTUNITY**
With generous support from the Winnipeg Foundation, the literacy intern will design and deliver a Family Literacy Workshop weekly to parents/caregivers and their preschool age children.
This role requires superior organizational, time management, and planning skills.
The literacy Intern will have solid communication and facilitation skills, the ability to create and maintain positive relationships with participants and the

community. They will need to be flexible combined with a positive attitude in a demanding and dynamic work environment.

**Overall Accountability**
United For Literacy Interns work very closely as a team with our partners, and volunteers. All United For Literacy positions work under the onsite and remote mentoring/supervision of the Community Coordinator, and/or Regional Manager.

**Major Duties and Responsibilities**
- Develop and facilitate a weekly family literacy workshop for parents/caregivers and their preschool aged children. The intern will facilitate 1 workshop per week at 2 different sites (alternating location each week). The program location/times are **Wednesdays from 1:30-3:00pm at**
**William Whyte School and Wednesdays from 10:00-11:30am at the Rene**
**Deleurme Centre**.
- Ensure proper and accurate collection of statistical information in order to report to funder at the end of the project.
- Ensure adherence to all program directives and deliverables while maintaining and working within a specified budget
- Supply shop for program materials and snacks on a weekly bases
**Skills and Attributes**
- Valid proof of COVID -19 vaccination or proof of medical exemption required for all in-person work
- Demonstrated experience working with groups of children, youth, or families
- Experience with program planning and management
- Adaptable, self-motivated, responsible, enthusiastic, creative
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, lively, and changing environment and independently when required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Respectful of diversity
- Commitment to literacy work and the United For Literacy mission statement
**Additional Assets**
- Valid Manitoba Driver License and access to a reliable vehicle
- Previous knowledge and experience with United For Literacy programs
- An interest in a career in teaching, social work, literacy/community development would be ideal

**Working with United for Literacy**
**Salary**:$15.65 per hour
**Hours of Work**:6 hours per week (3 hours for programming, 3 hours for admin duties such as program reporting, supply shopping, and program planning)
