D U T I E S
Reporting to the Landscape and Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, the Landscape and Grounds Maintenance
Technician performs a variety of landscape maintenance, installation and beautification tasks in order to care for
College grounds at Notre Dame and other near-by campuses. This position requires knowledge and experience
related to installation and care of woody plant materials, perennials, annuals, turf and interior plant collections,
including insects, rodents and weeds. Responsible for performing minor service needs or repairs to grounds
equipment. In addition, installation and maintenance of hardscape elements and infrastructure such as modular
paving, retaining walls, water features, irrigation, parking fences, road signage, catch basins, and flags. Further
duties include attention to hard surfaces such as roadways, parking lots, plazas and walkways including some
installation or repair, and line painting. The Technician will work with other team members to remove snow from
sidewalks, roadways, parking lots and other access areas during winter months. In times of operational need, may
perform other landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks as assigned, including assistance with various event set
- ups and tear-downs. Overtime and early starts should be expected when snow clearing is required.
- R E Q U I R E D Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S- Post-secondary diploma in Greenspace Management or equivalent education will be considered
- Manitoba Pesticide License, Minimum: Core and Landscape/Golf Course (required to obtain within probation

period)
- Completion of Manitoba Provincial Arborist Exam
- Several years experience in grounds maintenance and landscaping
- Experience operating grounds keeping equipment such as mowing units, tractors, loaders and assorted small

engine equipment
- Experience with greenhouse related tasks such as plant propagation, pest control, watering and fertilizer
- Ability to self-initiate a task, work independently and as part of a team
- Strong accountability skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
- A S S E T S- Knowledgeable with the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach
- Experience with horticulture
- Class 3 drivers license to drive heavy trucks and air break endorsed equipment (i.e., for snow clearing

equipment)
- Experience performing minor maintenance to lawn care equipment
- C O N D I T I O N S O F E M P L O Y M E N T- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
- This position may be required to work overtime
- Incumbent must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check
- Incumbent must hold a valid class 5 driver's license
- This position requires availability to work any time including overnight particularly during the winter season
