The Traffic Signal Technician is located at **West Valley Line, LRT, Edmonton AB** and typically reports directly to the Site Supervisor. Their primary focus is the installation and maintenance tasks all traffic signal equipment.

**Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- Identifies and analyses traffic control and network devices utilizing various maintenance and repair manuals, test equipment, wiring diagrams, schematics, electronic devices and electrical equipment

**- Set up, Program and test traffic controllers and detection Systems**
- Troubleshooting programming and electrical issues

**- Pull cable, install traffic signal components**, and terminate traffic signals wiring including street lighting.
- Assist with the installations, setting and framing of poles and streetlights
- Provides lead direction in setting up, installing and initiating the operations and servicing of equipment at a field site
- Read and understand traffic designs
- Placing conduit and different types of cables
- Installing underground and overhead cables and conduit
- Familiar with NEMA Traffic Control Systems systems (TS 2 Type 1 and 2 TCC, controllers, MMU’s, cameras)
- Familiar with both in ground and above ground vehicle detection systems (ie: loops, cameras)
- Familiar with emergency pre-emption systems (optical and GPS)
- Proficient in equipment interfacing via laptop
- Familiar with light rail transit signalling and operations would be considered an asset
- Familiar with **UPS systems**
- Provides signal turn on set up, installing and initiating the operations and servicing of equipment at a field site
- Setup MMU with design requirements and bench test
- Maintains records of all maintenance activities in accordance with contractual requirements
- Assist in other related duties as required, including scheduling, logistics, quality performance monitoring, etc.

**WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**
- Two or more years’ experience in traffic signal field experience, including experience working with or programming traffic controllers

**- IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician Certification Level 1 and 2.**

**SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS**
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of reading wiring diagrams and schematics and operate electronic tools and test equipment.
- Ability to enter aerial bucket and operate at heights ranging from 3-15 meters in compliance with equipment safety standards.
- Experience working from vehicle mounted aerial device is an asset.
- Ability to prioritize work, complete multiple tasks and work under deadlines.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to comply with the company standard practice as it applies to field assignments.
- Willing and able to travel to sites
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License (Class 1 and 3 would be an asset)
- CSTS
- Fall Protection Ticket

**- Red Seal Journeyman Electrician**
- Ability and willingness to join Local 424 Union

**Salary**: From $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
