**OVERVIEW**:
Reporting to the Community Justice Manager, the Community Justice Worker (CJW) will work directly with community, the Department of Justice, RCMP, the Crown, and other organizations or service providers in the areas of diversion, victim services, crime prevention, and mediation. This position will be located in the community of Sandy Bay First Nation and will service surrounding First Nation communities.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Liaise with Sandy Bay and surrounding communities to advocate for diversion files under the Restorative Justice Program
- Attend court on a weekly basis to provide progress updates on client files
- Liaise with Crown to screen potential cases
- Provide updates to the Crown and RCMP on the status and/or completion of cases, including diversions
- Recruit and retain reliable and responsible Community Justice Committee members in community
- Present referrals to the Community Justice Committee and facilitate regular meetings between the Community Justice Committee and clients
- Provide case management for all files that are referred to the program
- Provide individual counseling to clients from a worldview perspective utilizing holistic frameworks and interventions
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders and partners
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the Community Justice Manager and provide updates to Chief and Council and other key First Nation members on restorative justice matters
- Perform other duties as assigned

**EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Degree or diploma in Native Studies, Criminology, Conflict Resolution Studies, Social Work, Restorative Justice, or legal studies OR a relevant combination of education/experience.
- 2 - 3 years’ experience providing case management and advocacy within the criminal justice system
- Working knowledge and understanding of the judicial system, the Criminal Code of Canada, court procedures, restorative justice, mediation services, and legal terminology
- Knowledge of First Nation history, culture, values, and traditions
- Experience developing, facilitating, and coordinating community-based programs
- Demonstrated success in networking, relationship building, and cultivating trusted relationships with clients, collaterals, First Nation communities and their leaders or key stakeholders
- Experience with intake and assessment protocols as it relates to community justice
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with youth and understand their unique needs
- Ability to work independently and receive supervision or direction in a remote work environment
- Ability to be organized, detailed oriented, and take initiative where appropriate, ensuring that tight deadlines are met
- Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure
- Must possess knowledge of standard office equipment and MS Office programs including Teams/Zoom
- Counselling experience is considered an asset

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**:

- Must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search
- Must provide a current and clear Child Abuse Registry Check
- Must have flexibility to perform remote work when required according to location
- A valid class 5 MB driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle for regular business travel
