**NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION**:
Under the direction of the Health Director, the Land-Based Worker will coordinate and support all aspects of cultural knowledge and planning within the Land Based Program. The Land-Based Worker provides traditional teachings and life skills, traditional activities, and ceremonies in a safe and acceptable environment and coordinates access to elder and traditional people to meet the needs of the members of Wahnapitae First Nation.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Lead Land-Based activities in a culturally safe and positive environment. Program delivery will at times be in different locations
- Develop curriculum and or programming that is based on the cultural land-based program, and connections to the land
- Strong knowledge of outdoor cultural activities, such as trapping, netting, canoeing, hunting, and fishing.
- To build upon life skills and self-identity on the land to promote healing
- Strong knowledge of cultural activities
- Incorporate land-based practices, protocols, and the relationship to First Nation peoples’ identities and ways of life that will promote identity and culture
- Travel with members to land-based programming sites
- Take training related to the position ie., First Aid/CPR, Firearms and Safety Course, Boat smart license
- Maintaining Land-Based Equipment and keeping inventory
- Involve elders for guidance and direction
- Must have good communication skills

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Experience in leading land-based traditional teachings, life skills, traditional activities, and ceremonies is considered a strong asset
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth engagement, and community outreach.
- Strong communication skills with proficiency in developing written reports, documents, and the development and delivery of oral presentations
- Must pass a Criminal Record Check
- Valid G Class Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
- Must have a chainsaw operators certificate or willing to obtain it
- Must have First Aid/CPR Training or be willing to obtain it
- Must have Boaters License or willing to obtain it
- Speaking Ojibway Language is an asset
- Highly motivated, reliable, and committed

**WORK CONDITITIONS**:

- Travel is required
- Will be required to work indoors and outdoors
- Weekend work may be required at times

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

**Salary**: From $30.97 per hour

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Weekend availability

**Experience**:

- leading land-based traditional teachings: 1 year (required)

Licence/Certification:

- G Class Drivers License (required)
