This position is responsible for carrying out a variety of field work and technical activities related to seed orchard operations, including establishing and maintaining orchards, research trials, and operational projects.

The Ministry of Forests is responsible for stewardship of Provincial Crown land and natural resources. Overseeing a land base of 94.8 million hectares, the Ministry supports the sustainable management of forest, mineral and land resources, the prosperity, viability and competitiveness of industries that use them, and public access for a wide range of activities such as hunting, fishing and recreation. The Ministry is responsible for policy, development, operational management and implementation, and oversees over 50 statutes and associated regulations.

**Job Requirements**:

- Technical diploma or bachelor’s degree in agriculture, horticulture, plant biology, forestry or related field**; OR,**:

- Enrolment or completion of relevant coursework in a related field PLUS 6 months of related experience**; OR,**:

- Secondary school graduation (Grade 12) or equivalent, PLUS 1 year of related experience within the last 5 years.
- An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
- **Related field includes, biology, agriculture, horticulture, soil science, botany, forestry, tree physiology, dendrology, or genetics.**
- **Related experience is defined as, nursery operations, horticulture, farming, gardening, tree planting, or landscaping.**
- Valid BC Class 5, 7N, or equivalent Driver’s Licence (Class 7L is not considered equivalent).
- Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:
- Experience in a labour intensive or outdoor work environment.
- Experience operating machinery and equipment (ATVs, pruners, weed eaters, mowers).

Valid certifications and training in:

- Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate
- Aerial Platform Operator’s Ticket
- Fall Arrest Training
- ATV Operator Certificate
- Chainsaw Certificate
- Forklift Operator Certificate
- Other related certifications/training

**Provisos & Willingness Statements**:

- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments, and corporate structures. To work in an office setting and use computers, printers, and other IT devices to prepare reports, enter data, and manage and export information contained in databases.
- To obtain and maintain certification and training in order to meet operational requirements.

**About this Position**:
This is a temporary opportunity until December 13, 2024, and may be extended.
1-seasonal auxiliary position is available located in Saanichton.
This position has on-site work requirements.
