**STATUS: Temporary Full Time - 1 year**
**SALARY: $43.39 - 54.05**

Reporting to the Manager of Outpatient Surgery and Operating Room, the Anesthesia Assistant (AA) assists in the delivery of adult patient care in the operating room, procedure rooms and "out-of-OR" sedation, and general anesthetic administration. Under the direction and supervision of the Anesthesiologist, and using medical directives, the AA will provide assistance to the Anesthesiologist regarding the preparation for, initiation of, maintenance/management of, and recovery of patients requiring anesthetic support during surgical, diagnostic, procedural care. The AA pre-operatively assesses adult patients’ fitness for anesthesia; including patient interview, physical assessment, airway assessment, review medical consults, pre-operative investigations, and past medical/anesthesia charts. The Anesthesia Assistant interacts with patients, families, staff and physicians.
The AA transports patients to PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) as well as administers therapeutics such as oxygen, bronchodilator therapy. The AA also performs routine functional checks of equipment and trouble-shoots equipment problems.
The AA also provides therapeutic and diagnostic services to patients and provides guidance to assigned students, volunteers or related to a function.

**SKILLS & QUALIFICTIONS REQUIRED**:
- Member in good standing with a Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO)
- Current membership with the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC)
- Current Anesthesia Assistant Certificate
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
- Current Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS) - Preferred
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification - Preferred
- Current OR Instrumentation Course - Preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent related experience in a hospital setting
- Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to patient and family centered care and staff safety within a complex healthcare environment
- Demonstrated personal practice of cultivating emotional intelligence and evidence of learning agility
- Ability to effectively prioritize, execute tasks, and achieve deliverables
- Ability to deal with ambiguity
- Excellent interpersonal skills to enable interaction and communication with diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrates critical decision-making skills
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skill; ability to provide and receive feedback in an open and constructive manner, to actively participate in performance development of self and team members.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated leadership progression through conflict resolution, project participation, committee involvement, regional partnerships, collaboration and system wide thinking
- Experience in a LEAN environment an asset
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a wide range of professionals
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
