Straight Box Truck Operator

Steele's provides local same-day and next day pickup and delivery services to a diverse group of customers shipping all kinds of freight in the Edmonton area. You will be responsible to operate a company owned 5-ton straight box truck with power tailgate in a safe and responsible manner to perform pick-ups and deliveries to support our customers as required. Other duties could but are not limited to: Operation of a forklift in our warehouse including assisting drivers with loading and unloading, Shipping Receiving duties as well as other warehouse responsibilities as needed. The driving role is mostly done within a 50 Km radius of Edmonton but the occasional run to areas like Calgary, Red Deer or other northern locations will occur throughout the year.

**Skills**:

- Safely operate the assigned equipment in all weather and traffic conditions
- Perform daily vehicle inspection
- Operate handheld smart phone or tablet for ELD and to receive dispatch
- Able to stay calm and courteous even under pressure
- Ability to read, write and communicate clearly and effectively in English

Experience
- You must be at least 25 years old and have 5 years of verifiable and accident free driving experience in commercial vehicles
- You must have a clean 5 year commercial drivers abstract
- Ability to safely secure cargo on flat deck to ensure safe transport and damage free service
- Previous courier or trucking with straight box truck experience will be viewed as an asset
- You must have a proven track record of safe operation of a counter balance forklift

Success in this position

You will be successful in this position by being on-time for work and identifying risks to avoid incidents. You will have a strong knowledge of the geography around Edmonton and area and take pride in providing outstanding customer service to everyone you may work with during the course of the day. You will take care of your equipment, keeping the cab clean and tidy and helping to make sure the truck is maintained and serviced to extend its life and reliability for the job. You will be able to work with dispatch as they plan the work load. The work week is normally Monday to Friday and work hours are roughly 7:00 am to 5:00 pm but can vary depending on the demands on any given day.

**Salary**: $23.00-$26.00 per hour
