Child, Youth and Family Counsellor

**CHILD, YOUTH and FAMILY COUNSELLOR (Nakusp BC).**
The successful applicant will provide direct behaviour intervention, counselling, education and support services for referred children, youth and parents/caregivers in Nakusp, Arrow Lakes, and the Slocan Valley.
This is a hybrid role, with responsibilities in the following service areas:
- _Supervised Visitation Program_
- _Youth Support Services:_
- _Childcare Skills Acquisition Services_
**Hours / Schedule >**
Full-Time, Permanent
32 hours per-week
Service hours will be delivered on a flexible basis, and may include evening and weekend hours, to meet the needs of clients referred to the program.
Most services will be provided on an outreach / in-home basis.
Please note that this role requires extensive travel outside of Nakusp, and covers a vast service area, which includes New Denver, Faulkier, Edgewood and Silverton.

**Responsibilities >**
- Supervise visits between children / youth and their parents or caregivers to provide a positive and safe environment which supports ongoing family connections.
- Provide transition services to youth who are or are at risk of becoming significantly disengaged from their families / caregivers, their natural communities, pro-social connections, and / or the education system.
- Provide individual counselling to improve child / youth involvement in school, employment, and pro-social activities, and to acquire identified life-skills.
- Use a social-educational skill acquisition model to provide 1:1 support to children and youth with behavioural challenges and / or family conflict; and to enhance daily living and developmental skills.
- Provide parent / caregiver coaching, education and support based on identified needs and priorities.
- Improve parent and child / youth or sibling interactions and decreasing conflict.
- Facilitate support groups for parents / caregivers to enhance connections, provide education and promote skill development.
- Work with parents / caregivers to identify natural supports, improve health and general functioning, and to overcome concerns contributing to distress.
- Facilitate family, child and / or youth connections with relevant community services, and overcome barriers to accessing supports.
- Collaborate with MCFD Social Workers and other collateral service providers to establish comprehensive goals, and to facilitate the coordination and integration of services.
- Participate in Integrated Case Management (ICM) meetings.
- Implement and maintain required case management and clinical records.
**Qualifications >**
- A bachelor’s degree in a Social Services discipline (BSW, BA-CYC, BA in Psychology etc) _and _a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is _required._
- Preferred Types of Related Experience:_
- Child, youth and family counselling.
- Youth and family substance-misuse counselling program.
- Parenting skills training / support programs
- Specialized care (group care) programs for youth
- Other Skills and Attributes:_
- Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of strengths-based family systems and attachment-based support.
- Working knowledge of the CPS (Collaborative Proactive Solutions) model.
- Ability to establish trusting relationships with children, youth and families.
- Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Group facilitation skills.
**Wage / Benefits >**
$26.60-$27.60 per hour based on relevant experience and education.
Upon successful completion of a probationary period, full-time employees (minimum 20-hrs per week) are eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP contributions).
New full-time employees are eligible for 3-weeks paid vacation to start, as well as paid sick days as described in agency policy.
