Thales people architect solutions that support 85 million mainline and suburban passenger journeys, worldwide, every day. Our Rail Signalling and Communication systems are used on metro lines across major cities, and 72,000 kms of route, 52,000 trains per day in 16 countries are controlled by our Traffic Management Systems. Together We deployed the first-ever nationwide ticketing system which processes over 50 million ticketing transactions in 100 cities daily.

We are looking for a Systems Design - Intern to join us for a 4 month internship at our Burnaby office.

This also provides an opportunity to have a trained intern for future role within the department.

Key Responsibilities:
- Must be able to develop, implement and maintain tools and scripts (MS VB, DOORS dxl, etc.), to assist Systems engineers in day-to-day activities- Must be able to perform technical/engineering analysis as required for systems design- Responsible for assisting other members of the assigned project team in miscellaneous requirement specification and management activities, for example:
a) Importing contract requirements and other documents into IBM Rational DOORS

b) Trace customer contract requirements to system level and/or lower level requirements

c) Prepare documentation for configuration management and customer delivery purposes following established processes

d) Create or modify existing train control system and subsystem requirement specifications, interface requirements & systems design descriptions by analyzing, decomposing, modelling & refining customer requirements- Must be able to accurately reports work progress and estimates to complete the assigned work

Required Skills and Experience:- Software and scripting knowledge in C/C++ and Python- Strong planning and organization skills- Being able to learn independently and take initiative- Mathematical and engineering analysis skills

Preferred Skills and Experience:- Rail signalling, CBTC, and knowledge of specification-driven systems design (as it applies to computer systems with both hardware & software operation)
