**GENERAL SUMMARY**
The Squamish Public Library seeks to be a forward-facing organization that is capable of rapid adjustments to changing circumstances. While this job description is intended to reflect current responsibilities, the library system, and the incumbent each recognize that future organizational and service changes will affect responsibilities. The job description accurately reflects the level of responsibility and the skills that will be required.
The Squamish Public Library retains the right to shift responsibilities amongst staff paid at the same level as each other.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITES**
Library Service Desk/General Library Support:
- Check-in and check-out of library materials.
- Register new patrons into library database and update patron records.
- Provide information to patrons regarding charges to their accounts and library policies.
- Instruct patrons on how to use online catalogues and self-checkout machine.
- Open and close the library when required and follow all relevant opening and closing procedures.
- Assistant library users with locating materials in the library catalogue, accessing the library’s digital resources, and use of both public internet computers and personal electronic devices.
- Provide information on library programs and services.
Technical Services
- Create and review lost and damaged material reporting, follow up with patrons as required.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of cataloging and processing to support as needed.
- Support acquisitions team in ensuring all materials have been ordered and purchase orders have been created.
- Evaluate vendors and information resources when placing direct orders to ensure best value.
- Support interlibrary loan work as required.
Performs other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job
**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**
- Ability to demonstrate high accuracy levels and attention to detail.
- Superior organizational and time management skills.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to adapt and respond to administrative and technological change.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates discretion and maintains confidentiality.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and in teams.
- Cash handling experience.
**REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
- Grade 12 completion, preference to bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of one year of post-secondary training in library technology or an equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.
- Work experience in an office or computer environment.
**OR**
- An equivalent of education, training, and experience
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Position requires routine lifting of books and boxes.

**Current Hours of work**:70 hours bi-weekly, four-day week schedule. Some evening and weekend shifts will be required.
**Salary**:$30.22 per hour
