**Job Summary**
- IDEA is a ‘sandbox’ funded by the Province of Nova Scotia to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among students in the Faculty of Engineering at Dalhousie University. Its mandate is to develop and deliver curricular and extra-curricular training at all levels in the Faculty of Engineering, focused on identifying real-world problems, and developing and implementing hardware-based solutions through design thinking and advanced prototyping. Reporting to the IDEA Sandbox Director or designate, the Makerspace Manager is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the sandbox, managing the sandbox, and communicating sandbox events to the public and other stakeholders.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Management of Sandbox and Makerspace, including managing access to the space and liaising with Facilities Management on any issues and responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the Makerspace.
- Meet with students to discuss projects, entrepreneurship, and design thinking. Documentation of policies and operating procedures.
- Administration of the sandbox, including managing finances and monitoring other capital investments (e.g., computers, makerspace equipment), in accordance with University and Faculty policies and procedures.
- Conducting evaluation-related activities (e.g., surveys, interviews) with stakeholders, on Sandbox activities and preparing reports and presentations.
- Communications, including website maintenance, social media, advertising, and responding to media requests. Regularly communicating through various mechanisms with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
- Foster a community of innovation, design, and creativity to increase the Design Thinking competencies of students.

**Note**
- Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in a STEAM-related field plus, considerable experience in design thinking, teaching and maker experience.
- Experience working with tools and equipment such as drill press, belt sanders, and 3D printers.
- High degree of organizational skill, interpersonal acumen and problem-solving ability to provide oversight in balancing the multiple priorities, partners, facilities, and programs.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, enthusiasm for working with and encouraging students.
- High degree of skill using all components of MS Office.

**Assets**
- Masters in an engineering discipline.
- Experience in innovation and entrepreneurship.
- University teaching experience and demonstrated experience in academic course design.
- Desirable skills include social media, website maintenance, and financial administration.
