POST-SECONDARY ADVISOR

**PURPOSE**: Reporting to the Director of Education, the purpose of the Post-Secondary Advisor is to provide academic advising to community members and administrative support to the program. This is a 1 year full-time term position and works primarily in the office with mínimal local travel required. Depending on experience, the position starts at $35.42 - $37.58 per hour ($64,458.03- $68,394.69 annually)

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Provide Administrative Support to the Program**:
Revise and edit Local PSE Policy to ensure alignment with the National Policy Guidelines

Ensure proper file management, which includes ensuring all documents are filed appropriately, following up with students if needed, and data entering financial information

Process program cheques which may include tuition payments, living allowance, and other payments

Ensure data entered in TIFIS is correct and current for payment services

Prepare and manage financial reports including budgets, invoice coding, cash flow, and quarterly adjustments

Prepare funding proposals to support program initiatives

Prepare reporting documents as per the funding requirements

Liaise with a variety of stakeholders, such as Post-Secondary Institutions, ISC, and FNESC, regarding student issues and upcoming programs

**Provide Academic Advising to Community Members**:
Provide information on academic programs and courses to prospective and current students

Develop an education plan based on student’s career goals

Ensure local and national policy is followed by researching previous student history and the school and program.

Ensure compliance of program with all internal and external policies and procedures

Liaise with university student advisors to ensure students are enrolled and monitor student progress

Provide basic individual counselling, and support strategies to students if they are having difficulties

Refer students to internal and external resources when appropriate

Communicate current opportunities for students such as bursaries, scholarships, work opportunities, and scholar events

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**: (please attach all required documents)

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required

Guidance Counselor certificate considered an asset

Life Skills Coaching Program certificate considered an asset

3 years’ post-secondary student counselling experience preferred

Criminal Record Check required

First Aid / CPR required an asset

**Effective December 1, 2021**: full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to be eligible for employment at Cowichan Tribes. All individuals must show Proof of Vaccination as a mandatory condition of their employment

**SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES**:
Knowledge of internal and external community resources

Knowledge of budget management procedures

Knowledge of National and Local PSE Guidelines

Knowledge of and ability to complete ISC reporting

Working Knowledge of MS Office Suites

Well-developed written, oral, organizational and interpersonal skills

Time management with the ability to multitask different tasks simultaneously

Understanding of or willingness to learn Cowichan culture, customs, traditions and the Hul’q’umi’num language
