JOB SUMMARY: under the direct supervision of the dean of academic systems, will be responsible for providing individual or collective assistance to students in the following areas within a comprehensive advising model.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- assist students to develop an educational profile that allows for individual goals, needs and aptitudes, choice of courses and programs; provide information regarding program planning and diploma requirements including change of program, course load, and other academic policies, regulations and procedures
- provide students with information regarding program changes, including program requirements, deadlines and procedures to request program changes
- provide students with Commandites (permission to take course(s) at another Cegep) and evaluate summer school and inter-session priority requests
- evaluate transfer students’ academic records for eligibility for substitutions and equivalencies
- inform students with regard to other college services available, i.e. Faculty, Counselling, Academic Success Centre, Student Access Centre, Financial Assistance, etc.
- assist students in cases of proposed termination of studies, course and college withdrawals
- assist students registered with the Access Centre develop an educational plan which may require individualized accommodations:

- evaluate students' academic records as required to determine eligibility for a diploma attestation; provide students with information regarding diploma deficiencies and alternative course of action available to them
- analyze student records, suggest to students corrective measures to take and refer to other professionals and faculty as required
- participate in High School liaison activities and school visits providing information on the programs, courses and services available; serve as a resource person to the High School Guidance Counsellors and meet newly admitted students on an individual or collective basis during the registration process providing students with information on patterns of study, college policies i.e. course load, selection of courses and scheduling
- liaise with faculty and staff to ensure the transfer of academic information to/from academic advising department
- liaise with the Registrar's Office to keep up‑to‑date on admissions, records and computer systems, i.e., program requirements, scheduling and registration, summer school, etc.
- maintain contact with Quebec and out‑of‑province university representatives; arrange all university/teaM/Faculty visits to the College
- develop external college liaison with Academic Advisors in other CEGEPs, MEES, APAPI, NACADA, etc.
- keep up‑to‑date on all CEGEP programs and respective admission requirements; university programs and university admissions through Websites, University publications, University meetings for Cegep Advisors, directories, etc.
- assist in the development and design of academic advising procedures and tools, i.e. handouts for students, internal advertisements, department procedures, etc
- participate on program committees participate on College committees and projects related to responsibilities and/or as required as a member of the JAC community.
- contribute to special academic advising projects and programs, i.e. research studies, questionnaires, orientation, preparation of materials/handouts to staff, students, etc.
- participate in Student Services’ projects
- perform any other related tasks as may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
**Education**:
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialty (guidance counselling, academic and vocational information, education or psychology preferred).

Specific Requirements:

- Five years related experience
- Excellent human relations skills, communication skills, organizational skills and team work skills
- Computer skills (Word, Excel)
- French written (basic)
- French oral (intermediate)
- English oral & written (advanced)
- Knowledge of the CEGEP system preferred

Testing may be required to demonstrate knowledge of:
English oral & written (advanced)
