**Position Profile**

The Controller is accountable for the development and management of accounting policies and procedures, the design and implementation of the financial planning process, internal control and financial reporting for BBI and its entities to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards and procedures. The Controller is also responsible for the administration of financial and legal requirements of BBI’s loan, development and equity funds. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the controller establishes and manages all governance polices and procedures.

**Essential Position Functions**

**Principal Accountabilities**

The controller performs some or all of the following duties:

- Liaison regularly with funders, vendors, clients, legal representation, auditors, financial institutions and staff to ensure financial integrity and stewardship.
- Plan, set up and administer accounting systems and prepare financial information for BBI and associated entities.
- Develop and maintain financial reporting systems and internal control procedures.
- Examine accounting records and prepares or oversees preparation of financial statements and reports on a quarterly basis.
- Prepare and manage operating, revenue and capital budgets.
- Analyze financial statements and reports and provide financial, business and tax advice to RBDMs for their clients and loan committee.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, arrears, and reports for presentation to the CEO and Board.
- Implement recommendations resulting from audits performed.
- Contributes to the coordination of the data management information system (CRM).
- Administers and oversees administration of payroll and benefits for all BBI and associated entities staff.
- Maintains personnel files.
- Manages process and practice of staff performance appraisals on a regular basis and supports managers in the delivery of reviews.
- Develops and implements both governance and HR policies across BBI and associated organizations.
- Develops corporate policies as required (e.g. Privacy, etc.).
- Manages corporate compliance of all governing, corporate and financial policies and regulations.
- Oversight of the BBI investment fund as per the prescribed guidelines.
- Oversight of the CEDIF Venture Capital Fund as per the prescribed guidelines.
- Review all legal documentation relating to loan approvals and disbursements. to ensure all conditions precedent prior to disbursement of funds.
- May act on BBI’s behalf to recoup assets as a result of a client undergoing bankruptcy proceedings.
- Supervise and train accounting assistant.
- Undertake special projects as required.
- A member of the senior management team contributing to strategic planning and operational management of full enterprise.

**Authority**

The overall authority of the position includes the following budget and/or people accountability:

- Oversee the activities and outcomes of the Accounting Assistant.
- Manage BBI’s budget (in excess of $1M) as per the prescribed guidelines.
- Provides oversight for both the Investment Fund and the Venture Capital Fund as per the prescribed guidelines.

**Position Requirements**

The minimum qualifications needed to perform the essential elements of the job, including the following:

- A university degree in business administration, commerce, computer science or other discipline.
- A professional accounting designation (CMA, CGA or CA).
- 3-5 of experience in a senior accounting position.

**Salary**: $56,000.00-$65,000.00 per year

**Education**:

- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Accounting: 3 years (preferred)
