Job Summary:
The Children and Youth Services Librarian is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and managing all aspects of the Children and Youth Libraries. The Children and Youth Services Librarian provides reference services to teens, parents, caregivers, and children; plans, supervises, and implements programmes for children and youth; takes on the role of liaison with schools, daycares, and other relevant child and teen centred community groups and is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive collection of children and teen materials. Collaborates with and support the Outreach Coordinator with joint teen/adult programs throughout the community.

**Qualifications**:

- Early Childhood Education qualification, and/or Library and Information Technician diploma, or related discipline.
- 2-3 years of experience working with children in an education or library setting.
- Experience assessing materials and developing book and resource collections for children & teens.
- Experience building relationships and providing outreach to community partners.
- Library cataloguing skills obtained from a Library Tech of ALA Fundamentals of Cataloguing is considered and asset.

- Project management skills for coordinating library initiatives
- Strong organizational skills for maintaining library collections
- Leadership qualities to guide library staff and programs
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to perform job related duties with little to no supervision, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Considerable knowledge of the development, needs and abilities of children and teens.
- Ability to plan, develop, implement and maintain short and long term programmes and goals for children and youth services.
- Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the general public, all staff, other government/agencies/libraries and community groups.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Windows, as well as office equipment, various computer software programs, internet, social media, and Integrated Library Systems (ILS)
- Excellent creative, organizational, communications, planning, public relations, interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team.
- Ability to prepare and deliver Children and Youth Services activities, create attractive posters, displays etc.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: $27.12 per hour

Expected hours: 24 - 30 per week

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

**Education**:

- Bachelor's Degree (required)
