Position Overview
Snowfarming General Labourers work as part of the Safety Operations team. They are responsible for setting up and maintaining all Snowfarming fences and apparatus, performing trail maintenance, aiding with hazard marking and performing any general labour as required. They are to report any issues to the Snowfarming Foreman. They must ensure that all daily Snowfarming duties are being completed efficiently and work is documented.

The incumbent should expect to be working outside all day, every day, sometimes in adverse or extreme weather conditions.

Employees in this position are responsible for providing the following tools: Skis/snowboard, ski/snowboard boots, appropriate clothing layers for the weather, black ski pants as well as other sundry items.

This is a full-time seasonal role (October to May), 5 days out of 7 per week. Shifts are 9 hours, inclusive of a 1-hour unpaid lunch. The incumbent must be available to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays. Please note that you may not receive full-time hours at the beginning/end of season and during other slow periods.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Build, setup, take down, move, and maintain snow fences, log the same
- Ski/snowboard to access work sites
- Work through extended periods of physically demanding conditions
- Perform shoveling and other trail maintenance
- Enforce the “Alpine responsibility code”, slow riding zones, area closures
- Identify and address safety concerns pertaining to staff and guests
- Assist in emergency situations, including; Lift evacuation, avalanche rescue response, first aid, fire, etc.
- On-slope risk management: identify and mitigate hazards on hill (run checks, hazard marking)
- Assist other departments as required or perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisor

- Respect and adhere to the company’s policies and procedures as set in the “Corporate Policies”, “Employee Handbook” and “Safety Operations Training Manuals”
- Understand and adhere to Ski Marmot Basin’s “Harassment Policy” and the company’s “Privacy Policy”
- Ensure all work-related activities follow “Alberta Occupational Health and Safety” legislation as it relates to the job.

**Qualifications**:

- Able to ski or snowboard in all types of mountain terrain in varying weather conditions at an advanced level
- Applicants that are strong skiers and show a desire to continue on with safety operations beyond this role are preferred.
- Physically fit with the ability to lift/carry heavy/awkward objects while skiing/snowboarding (up to 25Kg)
- First Aid course/training preferred
- Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 preferred
- Valid Alberta class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.

**Performance Requirement**:
**General**:

- Work in a safe and efficient manner and complete tasks as assigned
- Perform shoveling and other trail maintenance
- Enforce the “Alpine responsibility code”, slow riding zones, area closures
- Identify and address safety concerns pertaining to staff and guests
- Ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency
- Assist in emergency situations, including; Lift evacuation, avalanche rescue response, first aid, fire, etc.
- On-slope risk management: identify and mitigate hazards on hill (run checks, hazard marking)
- Some snow-farming staff maybe trained and expected to operate snow mobiles
- Some snow-farming staff maybe trained and expected to use a rescue toboggan (10-23) to move supplies and materials.
- Learn two (2) sweeps in the Upper Area and one (1) sweep in the Eagle Ridge area
- Become familiar and proficient with Marmot Basin radio protocol
- Become familiar with the Avalanche Rescue Plan
- Become familiar with transceiver and other AvSar tool use
- Review and sign off on the Safety Operations Hazard Assessment and any required training documents
- Complete the workplace hazardous materials training (WHMIS)
- Demonstrate familiarity with pertinent sections of Marmot Basin’s Safety Operations Manual
- Report any damages or issues with company vehicles to the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor
- Assist other departments as required or perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisor
- Complete the Marmot Basin and safety operations ski skill assessment and have a copy on file
- Complete a boot binding test, for all work skis, performed by Marmot Basin rental repair and have it on file.
