**The Opportunity**

The Solid Waste Operations Branch is a branch within the Waste Management and Environmental Sustainability Department. This branch is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's Landfill site, which includes non-hazardous solid waste disposal, household hazardous waste receiving and disposal, leaf and yard waste disposal and composting, and solid waste collection and disposal. Responsibilities also include the operation of the scalehouse, which is the first point of contact for customers and waste entering the landfill site.

The Landfill Attendant position is the first point of contact for customers who intend to dispose of waste at the Barrie Landfill. This position provides effective front line customer service, performs daily scale house activities, at the Barrie Landfill Site. Landfill Attendant operates electronic weigh scales in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act, screens inbound waste for compliance with the Landfill Site Environmental Compliance Approval and collects associated user fees in accordance with the Municipal Fees By-law.

The Landfill Attendant position uses customized computer software that integrates with the weigh scales to calculate disposal fees, create transaction records, produce daily cash reconciliation records, and tracks waste transfers in accordance with Provincial legislation. Finally position provides customers with information regarding the operation of the Landfill Site and the municipal waste management system and assists with the resolution of customer services issues.

- Secondary School Diploma- Position Equivalency Code: A

**Experience**
- One (1) year of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
- Demonstrated experience in cash handling, customer service and basic accounting principles
- Demonstrated experience operating computerized weigh scales

**Knowledge/Skill/Ability**
- Demonstrated ability to:

- utilize conflict resolution skills to effectively handle difficult clients
- utilize mathematical skills for cash handling and cash reconciliation
- Intermediate skills include: Customer Service; Interpersonal; Organizational; Record-keeping; Verbal Communication;
Written Communication
- Basic computer literacy using the following systems and software: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel), weigh scale software, GEOWARE and the Internet

**Conditions of Employment**
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check*
- Please note that this is a requirement for any new employees to the City of Barrie in accordance with the **Police Record Check Procedure**. Existing employees who have met this criteria will be exempt from this requirement.

**Other Important Information**

**Location**: Environmental Center, 272 Ferndale Drive North, Barrie

**Hours**: The normal hours of work are 35 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

**Wage**: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2024 pay range:
- _Pay Level:_ Level 3
- _Yearly Salary:_ $47,884.20 to $57,330.00
- _Hourly Pay Rate:_ $26.31 to $31.50
