Lets make a difference in the community
Organized sports are being used throughout the world as a dynamic mechanism of engaging youth of all races, genders, and classes. Organized sports programs are not the end-all solution to youth crime, however, they can contribute to reducing youth crime by giving young people a positive identity of empowerment and by helping youth acquire leadership, teamwork and self-governance skills under adult supervision. Although there is limited evidence of a direct causal relationship between youth sport and youth crime reduction, there are several rationales as to why youth sport reduces youth crime: keeps young people busy and out of trouble, meets a need that youth have for excitement, makes young people feel empowered, fosters teamwork, and develops self-esteem. It is on account of these above-mentioned factors that our team has been running various sports programs on our own time for the last five years. The bedrock and fundamental principle of all these programs is to establish a rapport with disadvantaged youth through the medium of sports. These initiatives provide the youth an opportunity to play in an organized sports tournament with the end goals being; building a bridge between these youth and adults in a constructive manner and providing the youth an opportunity to learn and develop sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership skills.
During this time with COVID 19 on the rise, Kids Play Foundation is continuing to work with kids and families and doing our best to bring a sense of normalcy in their lives - especially the kids. It is a difficult time for all. The organization has teamed up with community partners to compile resources that can be made readily available to those in need. We have been working on providing online resources to the community and creating podcasts and web series to bring opportunities forward in a virtual format to ensure the community is safe and is getting the care it needs. Considering the current circumstances, these measures are most appropriate. The podcasts and web series have been helping build an effective relationship with youth, young professionals, and families. During this time of crisis, the need to stay connected with the community is far larger than before. Kids Play recognizes this and is here for any child or family in need. Our team has partnered with large scale businesses and organizations to provide relief to families and youth who have been hit the hardest during this pandemic. Some of national key partners include - Save on Foods - Overwaitea Food Group and Sleep Country. Numerous food and milk/juice drives to provide for families in need, shelters, youth in foster care, youth transitioning out of foster care, and food banks. Our team initiated new initiatives - including a toys and sports gear drive to support hundreds of undocumented families in hopes of giving their children an opportunity to play and stay active.
