Early Childhood Educator Level 2 and Level 3

**Description of the role**
Early Childhood Educator (Includes Level 2 & 3 Early Childhood Educators)
Position Summary:
To plan and implement age and developmentally-appropriate activities for children ranging in age from 1 year - 6 years based on the interests of the children. Provide a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment that fosters the children’s development in all areas.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Level 2/3 Early Childhood Educator Certification
- Valid First Aid in Child Care Certificate
- Clear Criminal Records Check
- Clear Child Intervention Check
DUTIES
Team Work
- Maintain open communication with team members and Director
- Work co-operatively as part of a team, extending support to team members when required
- Flexible, tolerant, and sensitive to the needs of others
- Ensure that all duties are carried out per shift responsibilities
Programming
- Record observations of the children’s interests to be used in weekly programming
- Plan and implement a variety of activities that provide an effective balance between active/quiet,
indoor/outdoor, self-directed/structured, individual/group ensuring that all activities are based on the
needs and interests of the children.
- Plan activities that provide opportunities to enhance development in the areas of Social, Physical,
Intellectual, Creative, and Emotional.
- Provide opportunities to develop Life Skills (ie. dressing, teeth brushing, hand washing, toileting)
- Plan outdoor activities beyond the use of the playground equipment.
- Plan and supervise appropriate field trips and special day activities
- Organize space, equipment, and materials in the room to ensure that an on-going and stimulating
environment is provided always
- Follow the centre-approved Child Guidance Policy
- Report accidents, injuries and incidents to the Director and complete the necessary incident report form
- Report suspicions of abuse and/or neglect to the Director
- Communicate daily with parents regarding their child’s day and any other pertinent information
- Adhere to all policies as outlined in the Educator Handbook
Room Atmosphere
- Arrange furniture and equipment to ensure that sufficient space is provided for activities and that the
children can move freely about the room
- Ensure that each child has a cubby or coat hook for his/her belongings with his/her name clearly marked
- Furniture and equipment are to be arranged as to provide effective supervision
- Materials to be accessible to the children, safely stored and well organized
Social and Emotional Environment
- Encourage the children to be independent and to use a problem-solving approach to dealing with conflict
with their peers and adults
- Noise level should be at an acceptable level always
- Children should appear busy, happy, and content
- Children should appear comfortable and confident in their interactions with Educators
- Educator interactions with each other should be mínimal; with the focus being on the children
General
- Complete an annual education plan to outline plans for continuing education, conferences, and
workshops
- Keep informed of new developments in the field of Early Childhood Development through participation
in in-services, workshops, and seminars
- Maintain the public image of the centre and promote Quality Child Care
- Treat all information regarding children and families as confidential
- Ensure that the daily Indoor/Outdoor Safety Checklists are completed
- Ensure that children are provided with 2 periods of outdoor play as outlined in the staff policy manual
Pay: $16.00-$18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 - 44 per week
Flexible language requirement:
- French not required

- Monday to Friday
