**About Our Opportunity**:
As an Equipment Operator, you will play an essential role in the first stage of producing the Hansard. You will transcribe five-minute segments of digital audio to produce a draft transcript that complies with our style guide and formatting guidelines. In subsequent stages of production, you will work with proofreaders and associate editors to further refine the transcript before it is published on the Legislature’s website.

**Primary Accountabilities**:
An Equipment Operator 3:

- Selects from the digital audio platform a five-minute segment of the proceedings of the House of Assembly, legislative committee or other meeting, listens to the segment and transcribes what is heard in a prescribed format;
- Assists in other stages of completing the record of the proceedings of the House of Assembly, legislative committees and other meetings; and
- Performs related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
You have at least five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You excel in the following areas:

- English grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
- Fast and accurate keyboarding and transcription;
- Listening skills;
- Advanced formatting in Microsoft Word and experience using OneNote;
- Basic internet research;
- Working independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines; and,
- Welcoming regular feedback.

You must be flexible and able to adjust your working hours to those set for proceedings of the House of Assembly and its committees. You have the ability to attend to detail and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge of Hansard and parliamentary procedure, interest in current events, experience using Sliq, facility with learning new software, and fluency in written and spoken French are assets.

**Working Conditions**:
Our workplace is in a comfortable office environment in downtown Halifax.

**Additional Information**:
The House of Assembly sits twice a year, in the Fall and Spring. These sittings carry a significant workload. Work typically commences in the early afternoon and continues into the evening. As a rule, time off is not permitted. Overtime is expected and required.

Please note this is a casual opportunity that may last up to 10 weeks in duration.

**Pay Grade**: CL 16

**Salary Range**: $22.02 - $24.62 Hourly
