**What can I expect to do in this role?**: As part of the technical team in the Earth Resources & Geoscience Mapping Section, you will:

- provide regional descriptions and interpretations of Ontario's surficial geology and geochemistry
- contribute to the sustainable development of Ontario's Earth resources
- plan, design and conduct independent and multidisciplinary surficial geochemical and sampling projects throughout Ontario
- collect geoscience data, prepare maps, reports and public presentations
- provide scientific leadership and advice
- direct and lead the work of field crews

**How do I qualify?**:
**Mandatory**:

- You must be a registered geoscientist or geoscientist-in-training in good standing with Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) or with another regulated association of geoscientists.
- You must have a 4 year Bachelor of Science degree in Geoscience.
- You must be able to travel to sites throughout Ontario to complete field work for extended periods of time.

**Specialized knowledge**:

- You have thorough knowledge of current scientific theories, practices and techniques directly related to the disciplines of geology and geochemistry that are applicable to the study of surficial media (stream/lake sediments waters, groundwater, soils, till, humus and peat) and geochemical processes in glaciated terrain.
- You have experience with surficial geochemical mapping techniques and processes to make primary field-based observations of sample sites and media, to construct and produce geochemical maps, infer geochemical models and make written interpretations based upon knowledge of local, regional or provincial geological relationships.
- You have demonstrated ability to interpret and determine relevance of anomalous concentrations of elements in overburden, water and other surficial media as well as source of error/limitations of analyses.
- You have knowledge of geochemical quality assurance/quality control methods and their applicability as well as knowledge of statistical analysis, geochemical modeling and plotting techniques.

**Communication, interpersonal and people skills**:

- You have demonstrated interpersonal and team leadership skills.
- You have strong communication skills and demonstrated experience communicating and dealing with the public and non-scientific clients on a regular basis delivering geoscience information to diverse client groups.
- You have experience developing and delivering presentations.

**Field work and equipment knowledge**:

- You are skilled in using GPS technology and interpreting air photos, maps and satellite imagery to ensure accurate location of field observations and safe travel in field conditions.
- You have the ability to operate road and water vehicles, such as 4-wheel drive trucks.
- You have the ability to orienteer and navigate.

**Other important skills**:

- You have planning, organizational and problem-solving skills to plan logistics, organize and lead field projects and multidisciplinary teams.
