Counsellor (Racialized Students)

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director (Student Wellness Services), the incumbent will work with racialized students within our community. The incumbent will assess client’s psychological and emotional development; plan and implement therapeutic interventions; and participate in the ongoing evaluation of counselling service delivery. The incumbent is responsible to provide quality health care to the Carleton University community in accordance with the policies, goals and objectives of Health & Counselling Services.
**Qualifications**:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in understanding the impacts of racial trauma, including anti-black racism.
- Lived experience of racialization.
- Knowledge of systemic barriers faced by marginalized communities.
- Strong commitment to self-reflection and cultural awareness.
- Proficiency in a second language is advantageous.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to flexibly respond to unscheduled urgent situations.
- Recognition of personal limitations and willingness to seek supervision.
- Understanding of the developmental stages in post-secondary education.
- Proficient in program development, group facilitation, and learning principles.
- Knowledge of key mental health issues impacting students.
- Proactive approach to addressing issues through educational program development and training.
**Education and Experience**:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
- Completion of a Master’s degree in a counselling field and/or social work, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current valid registration as a Registered Psychotherapist, or equivalent.
- Five years working as a counsellor and/or psychotherapist serving racialized communities, including at least 2 years of experience in a college, university or other educational setting is preferred.
