Mountain Skills Academy & Adventures is a leading outdoor adventure company dedicated to providing unforgettable experiences in the great outdoors. We offer a range of programs and activities, including rock climbing, hiking, mountaineering, and wilderness survival training. Our Kids Adventure Camps aim to inspire and educate young adventurers while fostering a love and respect for nature.
We are seeking enthusiastic and responsible individuals to join our team as Kids Camp Counselors. As a camp counselor, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and engaging environment for children ages 7 - 12 participating in our outdoor adventure camps. You will work closely with our experienced staff to facilitate activities, promote teamwork and personal growth, and ensure the well-being of all campers. Whistler or Squamish positions available.
**Responsibilities**:
- Supervise and ensure the safety of kids during all activities, including hiking, climbing, and other outdoor adventures.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of daily camp activities and curriculum.
- Provide instruction and guidance to kids in various outdoor skills and techniques.
- Foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere where kids feel supported and encouraged to try new things.
- Serve as a role model for campers by demonstrating respect for nature, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
- Assist with the setup, maintenance, and cleanup of camp facilities and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with kids, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members.
- Communicate the daily plan in the AM to parents and a daily recap in the PM.
- Respond appropriately to any emergencies or incidents that may arise, following established safety protocols set by MSAA
**Qualifications**:
- Must be at least 19 years old.
- Experience working with children in a camp, school, or recreational setting preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing, or wilderness survival.
- Wilderness First Aid (20 hours), LifeGuard (NL), Swift Water Rescue or equivalent certification.
- Criminal Record Check
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to changing situations.
- Passion for the outdoors and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
**Kids Adventure Camp Schedule (for both Whistler & Squamish)**:
This is a seasonal position, with Adventure Camp dates below
- Jul 1st - Jul 5th
- Jul 15th - Jul 19th
- Jul 29th - Aug 2nd
- Aug 5th - Aug 9thAug 19th - 23rd
8:30am - 3:30pm each day
