**Position Description**:
As a key member of the Research Facilities Infrastructure & Space Management Department (RFISM), the Laboratory Operations Safety Coordinator will work to service and support the Research Institute (RI) and SickKids research community across the Hospital and PGCRL campus from a safety, operations and facilities perspective. The Laboratory Operations Safety Coordinator is also responsible for managing assignments while balancing the day-to-day operational needs of the research community. This role is one which requires a strong understanding of laboratory safety practices and guidelines, facilities, equipment, and infrastructure requirements as they pertain to safety and operations of basic science research, clinical research, and vivarium work conducted in a healthcare academia research setting.
- The Laboratory Operations Safety Coordinator will perform regular rounds and inspections of the research building, respond to client inquiries and issues, and take a proactive approach to identify and address facilities, safety, and operational issues should they arise. They will partner with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) to support the identification and resolution of research safety-related matters to ensure risks and exposures are addressed appropriately. In this role, the Laboratory Operations Safety Coordinator will work with other RFISM team members on projects in the Research Institute. Examples of projects include, but are not limited to, consolidation and relocation of research labs and support groups in the PGCRL and the main hospital campus; customization of lab space to accommodate new equipment; performing space audit and analysis for the Research Institute in the PGCRL; implementing new systems and processes to support and improve the operations of research labs; coordination of data collection and conducting complex analyses for a variety of research initiatives. With guidance from their supervisor and peers, they will work independently and as a team to provide service excellence to the SickKids research community.**Here's What You'll Get To Do**:
- Promotes awareness and advising researchers on laboratory policies and best safety practices.
- Performs routine inspections of common research equipment, infrastructure, and space are well maintained and coordinates institute wide chemical pickups.
- Working under the direction of the Biorisk Program Manager and OHS, performs safety inspections and/or compliance audits as well as working on research safety programs, maintenance and updating training presentations and compliance.
- Working closely with the Biorisk Program Manager and RFISM, delivers safety training to research and support personnel.
- Meets with clients to evaluate their needs, investigate options, and make recommendations on approaches to resolve their requests or challenges.
- Attends and actively participates in intra
- and inter-departmental meetings and committees.
- Provides exemplary communication, facilitation, relationship management, collaboration, and customer service skills to ensure the ongoing success of the research community at SickKids.

**Essential Requirements**
- At minimum, completion of a bachelor's degree in Science or recognized equivalent required
- Experience working in a research laboratory with mandatory tissue culture experience and an understanding of safety principles.
- Understanding of research laboratory facility/equipment requirements including mechanical and electrical technology.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives.
