**Night Shift - Machinist**

**Department**:Leduc Machine Shop

**Position Summary**:
Produce machined parts by programming, setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) and manual heavy machinery, along with other shop equipment as required. Responsible for following and performing quality control activities, along with following all safety procedures.

**Work Schedule**:
This position is a **night shift **position. Hours of work are **3:30PM - 1:30AM Monday - Thursday**

**Duties**:

- Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances
- Programs mills and lathes in G code by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry and trigonometry; proving part programs
- Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three - and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such micrometers and Vernier calipers, adhering to international standards
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; reporting need for repair.
- Ensure parts adhere to quality requirements
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities and continuing needs
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs
- Other duties as required

**Competencies**
- Follow and understand both oral and written instructions in English
- Adhere to health, safety, and quality policies, along with all other company policies and procedures
- Grade 12 basic math skills
- Dedicated to continuous improvement
- Ensuring all work areas are clean and organized
- Participate in training and safety meetings as required
- Perform quality control inspections on products as required
- Ensure tools and machinery are in good working order and maintained

**Qualifications/Requirements**
- Grade 12 or GED equivalent
- Apprenticeship or working towards Apprenticeship or equivalent combination of education and experience an asset
- Forklift and overhead crane training or experience an asset
- Stand or walk for long periods of time
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs, lift items weighing more than 50 lbs with assistance from other workers, forklift and/or overhead hoist
- Exposure to fine dust and airborne particles, high noise level
- Good physical fitness

**Pay**:
Pay is dependent on experience. We offer employer paid benefits and an RRSP matching program to eligible employees. This position is eligible for night shift premium pay.
