**Summary**
The Non-Ticketed / Apprentice Carpenter under the direction of General Services Project Manager, is responsible for building, restoring and/or installing of structural woodwork and related materials. This position requires knowledge of the heavy construction industry. Specifically the practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety associated with this industry. The Non-Ticketed / Apprentice Carpenter must be proficient at the following tasks: stain-grade trim work, layout for stairs and common rafters, reading blueprints, and must possess mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates.

**Job Duties**:
- Assist with the creation of blueprints and manufacturing specifications.
- Construct chutes, forms and align form panels for pouring concrete.
- Observe and comply with all health and safety regulations and ensures any apprentices under your direction comply.
- Lay building foundations.
- Confirm trueness of structures, with a plumb bob and level.
- Framing including doors and windows.
- May be required to build trestles, bridges towers and other structures.
- Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment.
- Keep a daily log of tasks.
- Respect and respond to direction given.
- Contribute and participate in the effective use of the Quality Control System.
- Prepare estimates for work orders and request materials required to complete the job.
- Perform masonry and plaster work.
- Ensure an adequate supply of material is available for preventative maintenance program.
- Set up scaffolding as needed.
- Handle and transport job materials to the work area as needed.
- Guide and teach apprentices ensuring they are preforming task correctly.
- Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and the work does not exceed own limitations.
- Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
- Other duties as required.
**Requirements**:
- 5 years of experience as a Non-Ticketed / Apprentice Carpenter.
- 5 years of experience working in heavy construction.
- Currently working in the trade.
- Knowledge of safe operation of carpentry tools.
- Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
- Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- Time management skills.
- Ability to read building specifications, blueprints and as-builds.
- Ability to draw appropriate sketches to communicate details to team members, and others.
- Receptive to change - can adapt to changing circumstances.
- Makes suggestions for improvement.
- Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current.

- Must possess communication skills, self-supervision, and respect for safety needs

- Must have valid category five drivers’ license
- Must be flexible to work out-of-town when required

**Work Conditions**:
- Physical ability to lift up to 50lb.
- Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
- Overtime as required.

- Work both indoors and outdoors.
