**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the responsible Director or designate, the Manager is responsible for coordination of the Fire Prevention and Code Safety program and staff. The Manager provides consultative advice to site leadership, unit management and staff in the coordination of Fire and Code Safety programs with regional responsibility across Island Health; develops, recommends, and implements integrated Fire and Code Safety plans; coordinates site/sector Fire and Code Safety plans with organizational plans and ensures alignment with the development of policies/procedures; coordinates education, training and staff preparedness programs for all Island Health staff for response (including live, silent and evacuation drills) to fire and code emergencies.

Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a degree in emergency management, a health related area, the social sciences, geography, business administration and/or a related field and professional designation including trades certification, supplemented with five (5) years' recent related experience in a large institutional or campus environment, including two (2) years' experience managing business continuity and/or emergency management programs (including fire prevention programs) for large complex multi-site environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Additionally, preference may be given to those who are NFPA / IFSAC Accredited Fire Prevention Officers. Valid BC Driver's License.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Knowledge of emergency management, business continuity and fire safety issues in a healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of the standards, systems and response agencies related to fire safety.
- Interpersonal and negotiation skills including the ability to present to a wide range of individuals, group and stakeholders in a diverse community.
- Superior knowledge of relevant legislation, provincial/national standards on fire safety, building codes and other regulatory requirements.
- Superior knowledge of building fire alarm systems, devices and testing guidelines.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, contractors, and external partners.
- Ability to plan, implement, coordinate and direct programs and activities.
- Establish and deliver training, exercises, education programs and/or workshops.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Ability to function effectively in a highly dynamic environment and demonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational priorities.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, and to exercise judgment to resolve problems/issues.
- Excellent computer, written and verbal skills.
