**The County of Huron's Cultural Services-Museum Department is seeking a Full-Time Conservation Technician Museum to Join The Team**

**Position Summary**:
The Museum Technician is responsible for the care of the artifacts in the Huron County Museum & Historic Gaol collection and for building exhibits and displays.

**Role and Responsibilities**:

- Responsible for the preservation of the exhibits and artifacts as part of the Huron County Museum & Historic Gaol collection. Ensures the safe condition of the collection and artifacts both on display and in storage through environmental controls, pest management and personal inspection.
- Follows conservation standards and procedures to maintain the historical integrity of the Huron Historic Gaol and Log Cabin in any maintenance, repair, and modification.
- Determines and provides guidance regarding preventive conservation and preservation measures, including issues relating to access, handling, housing, storage, environmental control, contaminant and pest control, object installation and de-installation, exhibition, packing, and transit.
- Safe storage and housing for artifacts and archival items. Updates Museum database.
- Practices preventative conservation. Responsible for artifact care and handling, including preventative maintenance and cleaning.
- Installs and disassembles exhibits. Handles, moves, packs and unpacks artifacts for exhibits, storage, and loan. Mounts and prepares objects for display
- Designs and/or constructs museum exhibits, frames, display cases, and lighting, through use of carpentry, painting, glazing, and electrical
- Matts and frames works of art.
- Assists with set up for rentals, special events, and programs
- Some front desk reception, including greeting and directing visitors, and collecting admissions
- Works some weekends and is on-call for security emergencies
- Performs other duties assigned by the curator

**Qualifications and Educational Requirements**:

- Diploma in museum conservation from a post-secondary institution or Diploma from a Community College in one or more crafts or trades, e.g. carpentry, and training in museum studies in care and handling of artifacts and exhibition
- 2 years’ experience

**Competitive Compensation**:

- $29.85 to $34.93 per hour; as per the 2024 non-union wage grid
- OMERS pension plan

**Preferred Skills**:

- Knowledge and experience with care and handling of artifacts.
- Knowledge of preventative conservation in a museum context.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to use a variety of hand tools and stationary tools, as well as specialized equipment such as forklift and scaffolding.
- Computer competency in museum collection management software.
- Physically fit and able to lift artifacts up to 50 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driver’s record, and ability to operate a cargo van.
- Must qualify to obtain a Firearms Acquisition Certificate
