Intake and Assesment Worker

As the first point of contact with our treatment program, the Intake Worker projects a warm welcome and excellent customer service to clients, families and partner agencies. The Intake worker provides professional care in the delivery of assessment, referral, intake and admission services to men or those identifying as male, seeking concurrent disorder treatment.
Responsibilities and Activities
- To conduct all pre-admission and admission interviews
- Respond to telephone inquiries on appropriate form
- Maintain files of all admissions, inquiries and refusals
- To ensure that clients are adequately oriented to Harbour Light and its program
- To establish and maintain a computerized client information data base
- Liaison with outside agencies
- Serve on outside committees as appointed by the Program Director
- Report to Connex Ontario and Caredove the availability of beds
- To prepare monthly stats report
- Be in agreement with and willing to support our Mission Statement and treatment philosophy
- Maintain a drug and alcohol free lifestyle while on Salvation Army property and while working
- Participate in all staff meetings by attendance and giving input for improvement of program and operation
- Participate in regular direct supervision with immediate supervisor and comply by attending to noted areas needing improvement to ensure maximum job performance
Participate in yearly formal evaluation
- Be punctual, professional and adhere to the Code of Conduct
- Read and adhere to the policies and procedures of the Harbour Light
- Participate in staff development as required
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in the Human Services field; preferably Social Work
- Membership or the ability to be a member of a registered professional college preferred
- Other combination of education and experience may be considered
- Knowledge and experience with concurrent disorders and/or substance use treatment; preferably 2+ years
- Ability to have PRTOTECTED B clearance
- NVCI and CPR/First Aid certified preferred
Additional knowledge and Experience in:
- Concurrent disorder treatment models, harm reduction, relapse prevention and abstinence
- Community Reinforcement Approach, Stages of Change and other methods
- Outcome measurement, experience with various assessment tools
- Crisis intervention, trauma informed practices
- Understanding of the continuum of addiction
- Knowledge and experience in substance abuse counselling interventions
- Understanding of trauma in relation to substance abuse
- Knowledge of culturally competent practices
- Understanding of psychotropic medications and other pharmaceuticals
- Knowledge of community resources, housing partners and standards, shelters and other agencies
- Maintain client records / files according to agency standards
- The ability to work individually and as part of a team, individually and with community partners
- French language an asset

This is a full time position: 40 Hours per week
