Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

**JOB SUMMARY**:
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for managing environmental, health, and safety activities and providing technical guidance to improve workplace safety conditions and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Lead environmental, health, and safety activities through strong leadership and communication.
- Ensure legislative compliance with federal, provincial and local regulations.
- Lead the local Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and help to coordinate activities, recommendations, and accountability of issues identified by the team.
- Liaise with customer stakeholders and ensure effective communication on relevant matters.
- Coordinate and provide environmental health and safety training for team members.
- Participate in the new hire orientation program provide environmental health safety training.
- Investigate work related injuries and/or illnesses, provide statistical analysis, and assist in the development of effective health and safety countermeasures to continuously improve safety objectives.
- Ensure risk and hazard assessments are completed as required.
- Complete and update ergonomic assessments on a regular basis.
- Lead Safety Observation Tour program, with effective follow-up.
- Coordinate emergency evacuation procedures, training, and practice drills.
- Coordinate chemical awareness training and monitor on a continuous basis.
- Coordinate and manage hazardous waste program.
- Lead facility housekeeping efforts, including third party suppliers, and guide the 5S Program.
- Coordinate recycling efforts of all recyclable scrap.
- Environmental Responsibilities (as required) - ensure all environmental reports are submitted accurately and on time pertaining to areas such as: land; air; water and hazardous waste.
- Serve as the ISO 14000 Management Representative.
- All other duties as assigned.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Bachelor’s degree or technical certifications in related field preferred not required.
- JHSC Certification an asset.
- Experience: 3+ years’ experience in related field and/or automotive manufacturing environment.

**TRAVEL**:

- Travel Required: minimum

- Able to understand Environmental and Safety standards.
- Good communication skills including a high level of competency in writing and speaking skills.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with all team members.
- Good organizational and administrative skills.
- Strong communication, negotiation, problem solving and teamwork skills.
- Open minded, willing to take responsibility, result oriented.
- Microsoft Office tools experience.
- Demonstrated use of data-based decision making and problem solving.
