Champlain - Lennoxville Constituent College is seeking the services of a LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (CHEMISTRY), to work on a regular full-time basis.
- DESCRIPTION
- Reporting to the Associate Dean of Faculty and Academic Affairs (Pre-University Programs), the incumbent is responsible for the proper functioning and preparation of the laboratories as well as assisting the teaching personnel in the presentation, supervision, and evaluation of student laboratory work.
- **MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS
- 1. Prepare the laboratory experiments (reagents and material)
- 2. Quickly resolve issues/problems arising during a laboratory
- 3. Aid in the supervision of student experiments by providing assistance and support with various aspects of the laboratory
- 4. Ensure the proper functioning of laboratory equipment and instruments
- 5. Tasks to be performed after and between laboratory periods (cleaning and putting away materials)
- 6. Participate in the evaluation of laboratory techniques and work
- SUPPORT AND INNOVATION
- 1. Implement the design, coordination and experimentation of new laboratories as needed
- 2. Learn the use of new instruments, equipment and related software
- 3. Acquire and maintain new skills and knowledge
- 4. Support students in their projects (i.e. Expo sciences )
- ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS
- 1. Manage orders for materials, products, equipment and tools necessary for laboratories (quote, requisition etc.)
- 2. Participate in the choice of fixed assets (equipment, devices etc.)
- HEALTH AND SAFETY
- 1. Enforce that safety regulations are respected by all users of the laboratory equipment and facilities
- 2. Store and maintain inventories of chemicals and equipment according to standards
- 3. Ensure rational use of laboratory equipment
- 4. Maintain the Chemistry laboratories in a working and safe condition
- 5. Maintain safety data sheets in accordance with GHS-WHMIS 2015
- 6. Label all chemicals with appropriate symbols
- 7. Manage, be responsible and make sure to collect residual materials and dispose of waste materials in an appropriate manner and through proper channels
- 8. At the end of each semester, clean the glassware and replace the missing materials in each lab locker.
- 9. At least once a year, maintain a current inventory of all chemicals, supplies and equipment- Perform any other related duties as required.

**Requirements**:
**Education**:
Must have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

**Requirements**:
Must be proficient in English and in French, orally and written.
Must demonstrate good computer literacy and be comfortable with software such as Word and Excel along with data collection software.
Must demonstrate a good knowledge of College-level Chemistry and be self-disciplined in his or her work.

**Work Schedule**: Monday to Friday, thirty-five hours per week. Schedule to be determined at the beginning of each semester.

**Salary Scale**: $24.21 - $32.32

**Anticipated Start Date**: 2023-08-14
