Under the general direction of the Superintendent of Arenas, Pools & Energy Management, the Supervisor of Arena and Aquatics initiates, creates and manages the required systems to ensure the operation and maintenance of the physical plant of the department, indoor/outdoor aquatic facilities and arenas in an economic, safe and timely manner.

This position is also responsible for the selection, training, control and directing staff along with contractors, to execute Branch responsibilities. This position is also responsible to establish and execute Branch work plans within financial and human resource limits.

**_ As the Supervisor of Arena and Aquatics_**,**_ _**you will**:

- Select, evaluate, train, coach and manage personnel to ensure Branch services and systems are delivered in an economic, safe and timely manner.
- Conduct inspections of facilities and equipment.
- Assist in the preparation, control, monitoring and management of the financial affairs of the Branch including current and capital budgets and funding from other sources.
- Initiate contracts for services and supplies; provide input into various contracts required for arena and aquatic facilities service delivery.
- Ensure compliance of Branch with the jurisdiction having authority for the operation of all related assets.
- Co-ordinate to plan and execute minor and major upgrading/renovations projects working towards life cycle renewals in arena and aquatic facilities.
- Plan, initiate, implement, monitor and continually improve the optimum operation of the arena and aquatic facilities that the Branch utilizes to fulfill its mandate.

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- BOMA Certificate (Building Owners & Managers Association) OR an IFMA Certificate (International Facilities or Trades Certificate Management Association) required.
- System Maintenance Administrator (BOMA) would be an asset.
- Experience with building automation systems (Metasys) and computerized maintenance management systems (Maximo).
- Experience with cost estimating, forecasting, budget preparation and financial tracking.
- Experience working with human resource management systems, including but not limited to: recruitment, performance management, and interpreting Collective Agreements.
- Supervisory experience and ability to train, lead, and manage staff.
- Experience in building maintenance and management of facilities.
- Experience in strategic planning.
- Proficiency in computer software programs such as: Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook; Peoplesoft; Pegasys; VFA; Logbook.
- Verbal Communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with public and elected officials with tact and professionalism.
- Written communication skills with the ability to produce clear and concise documents and reports for a variety of audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the civic organization, external contacts, and the public with tact and diplomacy.
- Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a high volume of fluctuating tasks while meeting tight timelines.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze situations and make strategic decisions.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Ability to administer contracts.
- Knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations as they pertain to the scope of the position.

**Conditions of employment**:

- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- Must possess a 4th Class Power Engineer’s Certificate or have the willingness and ability to obtain within eighteen (18) months.
- Must possess a Swimming Pool Operation Maintenance Certificate or willingness and ability to obtain within one (1) year.
- Knowledge of facility and operational security policy and procedures within three (3) months.
- Must have, or be able to acquire in a reasonable period of time, a thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions and regulations that are applicable to the position’s area of work.
- Knowledge of the City’s policies and procedures within three (3) months.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends, as required.
- Must be physically capable of performing all of the duties of the position, in all weather conditions.
