Reporting to the Clerk-Administrator, the Deputy Clerk is responsible for providing administrative support to the Clerk-Administrator and acts in their absence as required. This position manages functions under the jurisdiction of the Clerk’s department and aspects of the Municipal Act, Planning Act and Municipal Elections Act. This position assists in fulfilling the statutory responsibilities of the Clerk, including policy research and implementation, maintaining quality customer service, licensing, records management, and cemetery administration. It is important for this individual to be detail-orientated and analytical, to best assist the Municipality in fulfilling its corporate vision.

This individual also acts as the Economic Development and Community Services Facilitator. In this position the employee acts as staff liaison to the Economic Development and Community Services Committee. They conduct research and lead projects that promote economic activity within the municipality, including outside funding opportunities. The employee shall provide administrative support to all community services initiated by the Economic Development and Community Services Committee that enhance Township aesthetics, age-friendly initiatives, community communication efforts and local business retention.
- A minimum of a post-Secondary diploma/degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Planning or a related field.
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in municipal government, preferably in the Clerk’s department.
- Completion of the Municipal Administration Program (MAP) or other similar program and the OACA’s Primer on Planning Course (POP) would both be considered an asset.
- Thorough working knowledge of municipal functions and responsibilities, applicable Provincial legislation, regulations, and Council functions and elections requirements and processes.
- Proficiency in MS Office software and familiarity with document management, scanning functions and various other software for elections, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to be a team player with effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to ensure effective working relationships with other employees, Council, and the general public.
- Strong time management and organization skills and professionalism under pressure.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure and meet deadlines.
