**Harm Reduction Community Support Worker**
**Summary of Position**
The Harm Reduction Community Support Worker will carry out all duties and responsibilities associated with community liaising, education, and services related to intravenous drug use and the collection of harm reduction equipment throughout the city. The main focus will involve engaging the community and individuals affected by drug misuse/abuse through community relations, and public safety endeavors.
**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Advocate and liaise with other service providers in the community. Write correspondence. Maintain accurate records;
- Inform and educate community and organizations about the importance of Harm Reduction services
- Implement & deliver outreach activities targeting people who inject substances
- Provide support and referrals to appropriate drug treatment services when requested, as well as appropriate places for social service needs, medical assistance, HIV testing, etc.;
- Maintain a safe and clean community through the collection of potentially biohazardous harm reduction equipment throughout the city
- Participate in program development activities and team meetings by communicating ideas, issues and opinions. Update factual information and philosophy using direct, tactful and diplomatic interaction.
- Provide a client-centered approach to harm reduction through open and honest communication, education, support, and referrals;
- Establish contact with intravenous drug users and peers of users, and provide support through direct, assertive, empathic communication.
- Complete general tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.
**Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge**
- An extensive awareness and sensitivity toward the needs and issues common to the lifestyles of intravenous drug users;
- College diploma or university degree in addictions, social services, or a related field;
- Knowledge of harm reduction and community resources;
- Ability to practice universal precautions;
- Vigilant attention to detail, and ability to keep impeccable records.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population and multiple organizations.
- Agility and ability to walk, bend, lift, climb, and work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliability and ability to commit to a weekly schedule
