The Addiction Counsellor is an important component of the organizations' resources supporting the activities delivered to youth within the therapeutic milieu environment. The Addiction Counsellor is expected to be a role model responsible for guiding clients towards successful outcomes identified in the treatment plan.

The Addiction Counsellor is the organization’s time-predominant resource for clients while in care, offering them a variety of manualized psycho-education programs, and contributes to the development of client self-efficacy and recovery skills mechanisms through coaching and role modeling.

**Core Responsibilities**:

- Develops a strong therapeutic relationship with the adolescent and makes use of the relationship to help the client acknowledge the existence of addiction-related problems in order to develop the motivation for change, adjusting and adapting the changing tasks that adolescents face at different stages of the treatment plan.
- Plans and facilitates developmentally appropriate pro-social activities delivered both in the community and on-site.
- Works independently as a member of the team which is oriented towards focusing resources to achieve treatment goals.
- Delivers, in group settings, a variety of educational and psycho-educational sessions as determined by the Addiction Therapist or by manualized programs.
- Fosters support and reinforces the clinical goals of the A-CRA program by assisting the adolescent in understanding the relapse process and developing, implementing relapse prevention strategies, and facilitating and/or encouraging various pro-social behaviors.

**Required Education, Skills and Qualifications**
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in the field of Child & Youth Care or Social Services
- A minimum of one year of experience in a treatment setting; experience working with youth is desirable.
- **Our residential locations are not serviced by public transportation, therefore, a** **valid Class ‘G’ driver’s license and use of a vehicle is required.**:

- Ability to obtain a clear Police Records Check for Service with the Vulnerable Sector.

The Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre (DSYTC) is a non-profit, community-based agency that is dedicated to helping youth (13-21) and families across Ontario overcome substance use and mental health issues to achieve a healthier lifestyle. DSYTC delivers evidence-based live-in programming from 2 locations; currently we are looking for staff for our Carleton Place campus.
