Prepared Foods-kitchen Operations Management Trainee

Company Introduction: T&T Supermarket Inc. was founded in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 33 stores across the country: 14 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 11 in Ontario, and 1 in Quebec. The Company’s continuous expansion is going to bring more new stores in the next couple of years.
The Role: Reporting to respective region’s Associate Director, Prepared Foods-Kitchen Operations Management Trainee is responsible for overseeing of Kitchen operations in assigned region’s stores to meet Prepared Foods-Kitchen’s financial and operational goals and other tasks assigned by Associate Director.
Major Responsibilities: Business Objectives:
- Assist Associate Director on the setting of annual financial budget for Kitchen department in assigned stores
- Coordinate with Engineering department to prepare new/renovation store layout design and equipment selections per merchandising plan
- Assist Kitchen Operation management team on communication with Store Operations management to ensure store operation team execute smoothly on Kitchen’s program/plan/promotion/production/layout and so on
Operational Standards:
- Establish and create Prepared Foods-Kitchen Operation Standards
- Oversee assigned region’s Prepared Foods-Kitchen’s Specialists: Operation, Technical, and Training to meet company standards and expectations
- Identify Operation/Production improvement opportunities, lead, and guide Kitchen Operation team to systematically achieve the target
- Ensure store operation teams execute Kitchen promotion, production, layouts, etc. per Kitchen Merchandising plans
- Ensure compliance on sanitation and regulatory requirements relating but not limited to Food and Work Safety by Kitchen Operation teams
Kitchen associates/production team training & development:
- Establish and create Prepared Foods-Kitchen Operation Standards and training materials
- Establish training guidelines for Kitchen management team consisted of Operations Specialists & Technical Specialist, and Training Specialist to properly train store Kitchen operation team key positions such as Department Heads, Assistant Department Heads, Head Cooks, and section supervisors to meet established operation/production standards
- Ensure skill transfers by Technical Specialists to Kitchen Operation team in stores
- Evaluate and identify potential colleagues to enroll in talent pool programs
Others:
- Feedback to regional Associate Director and senior management team regarding to activities of regional competitors and propose suitable actions to mitigate risk to Kitchen overall business
- Communicate with Kitchen Management team on issues/challenges faced by Kitchen Operation team in stores to seek suitable solution
- Perform any other duties as assigned by superior
- Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements: Possess a minimum of 3 years’ experience in managing retail chain/food service store operation at management level
- Possess in-depth knowledge of retailing business and food service operations with supermarket experiences preferred
- Proven leadership skills with sound business judgment and decision-making and is open-minded for innovation
- Strong interpersonal, time management and organization skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) is an asset
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and external stakeholders
- Must have at least intermediate level of computer skills in using MS Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to generate/analyse data for business needs
