Compensation Range
$6,677.33 - $10,433.50 CAD Monthly
The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

This position will have a work schedule of Thursday-Monday, days off will be Tuesday/Wednesday. This position will also have every fourth Saturday/Sunday off.

Job Description Summary
The Counsellor in Residence, working with other Counsellors in Residence, provides services and programming for student residents, to support students’ mental wellbeing. Provides single session/short term counselling, triage and referral to UBC and community resources as well as emergency services as appropriate. Provides consultation including response to crises as well as ongoing training and support for Residence Life Managers and Residence Advisors to support residence students’ mental wellbeing.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life (Counsellors in Residence). Works collaboratively with residence professional staff as well as with the team of professionals in Counselling Services, Student Health Service and Health Promotion and Education, actively participating in and contributing to the development and delivery of effective mental well-being programs and services. Also works in collaboration with other campus resources and faculties as needed.
Work Performed- Provides single session and short-term counselling to support residence students who are experiencing mental health concerns.- Conducts triage as needed and referral to the most appropriate level of support utilizing a stepped care approach, including UBC and community resources as well as emergency services as indicated.- Develops and implements programs and consultation services for residence staff to support student mental health and wellbeing.- Responds to crises and emergencies within the residence system, involving consultation to residence professional staff as well as coordinating and/or providing direct counselling services for students.
Programming and Community Engagement- Participates in ongoing training and support for Residence Life Managers and Residence Advisors.- Collaborates with residence professional staff, student leaders, staff from Student Health Service, Health Promotion & Education, Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office, and other student services to develop and deliver programs and services that enhance students mental wellbeing.- Liaises with community stakeholders, professional organizations, post-secondary institutions, and other partners to support effective mental health program development and delivery.- Participates in and supports mental wellbeing programming in orientation events and other wellbeing events.
Collaboration- Participates in meetings with residence professional staff as well as Counselling Services case management and administrative meetings.- Facilitates, in connection with UBC Counselling Services as appropriate, the operation of mental programs within Student Housing (e.g. group counselling, etc.).- Liaises with and participates in the Community of Practice for UBC Health Promotion and Education.- Participates in the development of policies, processes and plans that promote student well-being as well as policies and procedures to ensure effective delivery of mental health programming and services within Student Housing and Community Services.- Prepares reports, publications and other documents as required. Works closely with Communications to develop content for and promote well-being programming for student residents.
Note: Flexible work hours, including evenings according to program or area needs and works one day each weekend. Works on site in student residences, as part of a team providing seven day per week access to counselling services in residence. Appointments are conducted both virtually and in-person.
