Our organization is currently seeking a positive, outgoing, team oriented individual to fill the position of HSE Specialist. The HSE Specialist should be committed to helping the company achieve excellence in safety, while adhering to all OH&S standards.

The position will report to the Director of Operations. The HSE Specialist will coach and mentor employees, lease operators and contractors in understanding and complying with all Government Statues and Regulations as well as internal policies & procedures. This includes promoting, monitoring and ensuring compliance with the company’s HSSE management system.

**Job duties include**:

- Promoting a safety culture where health and safety is a priority that must never be compromised
- Assist with the development and accuracy of all HSE program documents and employee HSE files
- Provide and/or facilitate training of the new and existing HSSE Management System elements to employees within the scope of responsibility
- Prepare and update orientation packages
- Recommend changes and assist in development and implementation of new and existing HSSE policies and procedures
- Compile safety and TRIF statistics
- Perform all administrative duties for the safety department (data entry, filing, etc.)
- Manage and maintain regular HSE communications to drivers and staff (Safety Topics, Safety Alerts, Near Miss Communications)
- Liaise with HR in regard to workplace injury claims (WCB)
- Monitor and coach safe work practices to employees and contractors
- Report on spills, accidents, incidents and assist/conduct investigations as required
- Attend and conduct company safety meetings
- Coordinating HSE audits such as COR or client assessments to ensure compliance, including necessary and timely corrective actions
- Assist and/or coordinate emergency response exercises including live and table top drills
- Review and assist with the creation and/or revision of SOP/JHA’s as required
- Maintaining various databases and online compliance networks (ISN/Complyworks/Avetta)
- Conduct periodic inspections and/or audits of work areas
- Assist with project hazard and risk assessment when required
- Ensure the company is kept informed of any changes to regulatory legislation
- Complete reports as required to all applicable government department (Collision Evaluations, 7 days reports)
- Ability to travel 10 to 20%
- Being available outside of office hours to take calls regarding after-hours safety events
- Fulfill other general safety administration tasks as requested

**Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Immediately report details and update as status changes, of all serious accidents, injuries or reportable spills and releases
- Post and forward spill, accident, incident reports to Directors as soon as possible
- Ensure that appropriate regulatory agencies are informed of spill, accident, incidents with the appropriate time frames
- Ability to recognize and intervene with any safety, operating, equipment or environmental deficiencies
- Good communication, coaching, mentoring and interpersonal skills
- Good written, verbal and analytical skills
- Attention to detail
- Self-motivated and team player
- Good organizational skills
- Proficiency in business software i.e. Microsoft word, Excel, Power Point etc.

**Education & Experience**:

- 3-5 years safety related experience
- Experience with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods is an asset
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation, or working towards the designation, other recognizable designation related to the safety field i.e. NCSO, CSO, CHSEP etc.
- Knowledge of multi Provincial safety, OH&S, Labour, Transportation and Environmental regulations
- Valid Class 5 or better driver’s license.
- First-aid, H2S, Confined space, Fall Protection is an asset

**Salary**: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
