**Youth Sexual Violence Counsellor and Advocate**
- The Sexual Assault Centre of Brant is a feminist, equity-seeking organization which seeks to create healing and change in our community.
- The Youth Counsellor is responsible for providing individual, trauma-informed counselling in local area high schools, from our office located in Brantford and from other sites in the local community. As a result, having a drivers’ license and a car is strongly preferred. Mileage expenses are covered by SAC Brant.
- The position will be 27 hours per week at a rate of $30 per hour ($45,730 annually), and it is considered to be a core permanent position and will continue contingent on funding.
- Work week configuration is negotiable and but will require weekday, day-time availability and limited early evenings.

**Responsibilities of the role**:

- Provide individual counselling, advocacy and referral to youth of all genders between the ages of 14 and 19 who are survivors of sexual violence or want support with exploring sexuality and safety.
- Provide individual counselling, advocacy and referral to above populations on issues (other than sexual violence) for a limited number of sessions (common topics discussed in counselling sessions include relationships, housing, eating and body image, pregnancy, parents).
- Liaise with school staff, community agency staff, police, courts, medical personnel, parents, friends and support people and advocate for meeting the needs of the service user.
- Develop, acquire and disseminate resources as required by the youth who access service.

- Trauma-informed counselling and advocacy experience in any setting.
- Experience working with survivors of sexual and gender-based violence is an asset.
- Healing-based engagement or advocacy with any population that experiences systemic oppression is an asset.
- Familiarity with (or ability to learn quickly about) local, provincial and federal organizations whose work relates to youth.
- The ability to respond to multi-faceted demands, to rely upon your own initiative and to work with mínimal supervision in a crisis-response environment. (You thrive in chaos, but do not add to it).
- Studies (either completed or in progress) that support this work.
- You have access to a reliable vehicle to travel within our service areas (see above).

**When we asked current service users what they’d like to see in the next youth counsellor, here is what they told us**:

- The new counsellor must not be boring or generic, must not seem like a parent/doctor/teacher.
- They must be young, cool, queer, racialized, interested in RPG, TikTok and nail art.
- “Regular/judgey” counsellors need not apply.
