General Description:
The Analytical Chemist is responsible for identifying the potency of active ingredients in OTC drugs and cosmetic products as required by current regulatory and Customer specifications. This position is also responsible for the accurate maintenance of all cosmetic and OTC drug documentation as well as other lab duties i.e. calibration, volumetric solution preparation/standardization, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Careful preparation of various mobile phases and standard materials for analytical analysis in accordance with industry standards such as USP/NF.
- Completes analysis of active pharmaceutical ingredients and preservatives in raw materials and formulated products using instrumented chromatography including HPLC and GC.
- Participates in testing of cleaning validation samples, as required.
- Completes basic wet chemistry techniques, including titrations and water content.
- Collects and maintains Purified Water and associated logbooks for laboratory use.
- Conducts in-house calibration and labelling of laboratory equipment as per written procedures following a predetermined schedule.
- Documents all findings and calculations in appropriate log books, certificates and data summary cards.
- Maintains logs and records/documentation in a current logical, legible, manner meeting industry regulations and requirements in accordance with Customer and GMP practices.
- Maintains a clean and organized working area.
- Responsible for the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and waste generated within the analytical lab following internal procedures.
- Assists in training students, lab technicians and other support staff
- Complies with Good Manufacturing Practices, Company policies; Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Standards

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Chemistry or related field

Skills/Experience:

- Previous experience as an Analytical Chemist in cosmetics/pharma or related industry
- Comprehensive knowledge of principles of modern analytical chromatography, high pressure liquid chromatography, infra-red and UV-Visible spectroscopy.
- Fully knowledgeable on Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
