**The Team**:Foster Care
**The Role**:Foster Parent - Contract Position
The Foster Care Team at Trellis is looking to partner with individuals and families like yours to provide temporary loving homes to children and youth in need.

**Tasks & Responsibilities**:
- As part of the child/youth caring team, you will be the primary caregiver in the day-to-day care and well-being of the child/youth placed in your home.
- Through your passion and desire to make a difference, you will engage with the child’s support system (Trellis, Children’s Services, and other professionals) as an advocate for the child/youth’s needs.
- As a primary caregiver, you will provide the child/ youth with daily support to develop and meet developmental milestones and develop life skills so that they can flourish
- As a liaison and role model, you will support the child/youth in bridging relationships with their natural family; through these nurturing relationships, you will be a catalyst for generational change
- You will provide knowledge and support by walking alongside a young person through their education journey. This can look like teaching a young child how to write their first letters or a teen with a school project.
- Ensuring the physical and emotional health of the child/youth in your care through annual, routine and as-needed medical, dental, optical, and other appointments.
- Through your desire for learning and exploring new cultures and ideas without judgement and bias, you will support the child/youth to connect to their culture and heritage.
- Through allyship you will support a young person as they explore their identity and how they fit in the world.
**What You’ll Bring to The Role**:
- You are a resident of Calgary or Surrounding Area
- 18 years or older
- Valid Driver’s License
- Have physical space in your home for a child/youth
- Experience with children is an asset (but not required)
- Openness to learning and a desire to make a difference
- Willingness to go through the screening/assessment process to be licensed (including a clear Police Check including Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Intervention Record Check and SAFE home assessment)
