**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**

We are looking for front line leaders who thrive being in the center of the action. As an Assistant Trainmaster you will be responsible for coordinating processes related to arrival, classification, building, inspecting, and dispatching of trains. You will support the Trainmaster in the efficient movement of traffic within the road territory and yard-terminal by developing, organizing, and executing the daily yard-terminal/road operating plan in a safe and cost-effective manner. You will also provide leadership accountability for inputs and outputs of safety, service, productivity, and financial metrics. Most importantly you will lead by example to build a strong safety culture along with providing coaching on operational best practices.

This position requires shift work, being hands on and working outdoors in all weather conditions at times.

**POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES**:

- Coordinate yard processes to fulfill engineering and mechanical requests for car movement and placement, customer car orders, and customer service operations instructions;
- Assist in the coordination of all train movements within the yard, mainline and terminal to dispatching and operating crews;
- Accountable for asset utilization within the terminal, and expedited train movement to reduce and meet terminal dwell time;
- Responsible for job safety briefings, efficiency tests, communicate with employees for all safety initiatives and blitzes required in the terminal and other safety activities;
- Provide times update, delays and variances in NEXUS/Yard Planner and transfer of liability (TOL) notification as required;
- Troubleshoot and implement action plans and standard process to address daily problems and concerns;
- Assist in crew transportation to and from trains, away from home terminal hotels and for over the road requirements;
- Review workload for local service operating plan (LSOP) assignments to ensure maximum production and efficiency; and execution of the LSOP and operating plan (OP) through active supervision;
- Ensure mechanical requirements are met for car repair spotting and inspection to maximize track availability;
- Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and properly communicated to the next assistant trainmaster on shift; resolve non-compliance crew issues and/or opportunities for process improvement or escalate to the trainmaster as appropriate;
- Accountable for notification and escalation of customer delays, inventory management of terminals and line of road in their areas of responsibility; and
- May be assigned employees to mentor and coach through active observation and providing feedback.

**POSITION REQUIREMENTS**:

- High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma.
- Previous railway experience as a conductor or engineer and/or previous supervisory experience is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrated operational knowledge related to operational plans and yard management practices.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CP’s Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) qualifications as a conductor or engineer.
- Wiling to operate trains to support operations as needed.
- Qualified Locomotive Engineer is an asset.
- Must be able to obtain a passport.
- Must be Bilingual (English and French).
- Proven ability to understand collective agreements and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with an ability to pinpoint expectations along with providing positive, constructive feedback.
- Previous experience conducting investigations; analyzing, understanding, and resolving local issues related to interpreting variances to operating protocols, an asset; and
- Willing and able to work rotating days/nights shift to support a 24/7 operation.
